docking station dead

Good afternoon folks,
As crazy as it may seem, I purchased a refurb dockingstation/battery pack. I got it directly from the Philips outlet so I figured I was minimizing the risk (also $36 so what the heck).
Well, my original batteries finally croaked, so I tried things out. Hooked up the new battery pack and nothing. That didn't surprise me, figured they'd ship w/a dead battery. Next, I read the instructions where it clearly states it may take 2 - 3 hours. Try that. Nothing. Left it on overnight. Nothing.
Can someone describe how this thing is supposed to behave? I.E. I plug in the ac adapter and blue LEDs come on. Nothing changes when I put the Pronto on the docking station. Nothing shows on the screen either. During one session, I checked it out and there were NO LEDs lit.
Is there any way for a layman to tell if its a bad battery pack or the docking station? I had seen the complaints of short battery life w/theirs and was sort of planning on upgrading the pack anyhow.

Regards,
BigRob.

When I place my pronto on the docking station, the blue LEDs come on and stay on until it is charged. When the LEDs are out, then I know its done charging. The way you described it, it sounded like the blue LEDs stay on all the time. If they do, then I would say something is wrong with the docking station.

Interesting, so the LEDs don't light until the pronto is in the docking station.

Looks like they sent me a bad refurb. Guess I know what my answer to the "should I buy a refurb" thread would be.

BigRob.

I think they blink when plugging in the unit, but they should not be on unless the remote is in. They indicate charging, or when flashing a charging problem.

Are all the pins on the docking station's connector good and not bent?

If you get no blue leds on something is broken.
Apart from pins bending you can meassure voltage.
If you have voltmeter check if power supply unit delivers anything (should be anything between 13 and 18V).
Then you might meassure voltage on left pins on the docking station (12V-13V).
Otherwise it is inside your Pronto.

If it is power supply you can get spare one from Radio Shack for few $, just be careful with polarity.
If the docking station is dead you can either send it back for exchange or check if it is the fuse inside 3/4A and swap it if you can solder.

Plenty of options but it all sucks because new unit should work, no matter if it was refurb.

Thanks for the added input folks. I'll take a closer look a the pins to see if anything looks shorted out.

Gotta like the way they handled the refurb. Someone ships it back dead, they just reseal the package (maybe throwing in a new battery pack) and ship it back out.

All you have to do is plug it in and w/no Pronto it lights up. Something is obviously wrong. You'd think they'd have at least tried it.

Regards,
BigRob.
