Hi all,
short question:
I brought ProntoProNG from the states. I did the same with ProntoNG last year.

My problem is that docking stations look completely the same (only in different colour) but power supplys are different.

ProntoNG has 12V / 300mA and ProntoProNG 12V / 400mA

My 300mA european power supply (bought externally) works fine with ProntoNG docking station but does not work with ProntoProNG docking station.
I tried 200mA and 500mA power supplys but none seems to work.

Question:
Is there any limiter inside docking station that forces use of 400mA? Sounds strange to me...
Is there any other reason why my ProntoProNG docking station does not work with ProntoNG power supply?

Thanks
Jonas

Add on,
I tested the docking station on 115V generator and it works fine with original US power supply.

Anything I'm missing here?

Did you try the pro in your old charger. It should work. I haven't tried swapping power supplies but I frequently charge my 3000 in the 7000 dock, I would think it would work the other way too.

Does the supply have a polarity switch ?
.... maybe you swiched unintentionally to the wrong position ?

Hi Jon
Yes it works perfect in old charger (even though battery in Pro has 100mAh more capacity)

But for convenience , I want it to work in a new one too!

_________

Servus (correctly written?) Frank,
I did not switch the polarity, I even meassured it ten minutes ago.

________

Strange , really strange?

If you set the polarity the wrong way, the charger will be destroyed. This has been reported a few times.

Yes, I read this many times.
There is 3/4 fuse inside that blows. (but it can be changed)

In my case polarity is correct.

I connected today appropriate power supply 230V/12V / 400mA and it runs fine. But it does not run with 300mA power supply from NG!

There must be something faulty inside - this is not in corelation with the laws of electricity. I opened both docking stations and they look completely the same...

Whatever, thanks everybody.

I just ordered a TSU7000. I saw this comment online, and am looking for clarification..

"I have heard rumors that the AC adapter that plugs into the recharging dock, might cause a shock that damages the docking station and/or the remote control. I didn't want to take the risk of damaging it even if it was a rumor, so i upgrading and bought a new AC adapter from Radio Shack".

Is this the same as the "polarity" mentioned earlier in the thread, and also I ask because aren't most plugs made so that they can only go in the outlet one way? I know that all of my A/V components are like this except for my Marantz (70's era) turntable. So this ProntoPro NG's charging station's plug has prongs that are the same and not one larger than the other?

Also, if I have this completely confused and this has to do with the orientation of, not the plug going into the outlet, but instead the OTHER end of the cord into the charging dock, I'd like to be corrected on this.

Thanks in advance for any answer. Now is the "wait" for the remote to arrive. :)

Plugs are polarized so they only plug in one way. Polarity is the orientation of plus and minus on the end that plugs into the dock. Aftermarket universal power supplies usually have a reversible end that will put positive on tip or positive on ring (shield). Polarized and non polarized plugs shouldn't damage equipment, backwards polarity will damage equipment. If you are unsure always measure with a meter.

Haven't heard the rumor about the shock damaging a docking station. An electrical surge is more likely unless the power supply is faulty.

If you buy universal power supply you get it with reversible end piece. Depending how you turn it you will get plus inside (correct) or outside (incorrect - might damage docking station)
Take some voltmeter and meassure if the plus is inside.

Otherwise you might blow the fuse. If you read other threads you will find out that it is fairly easy (you need some soldering skills though) to swap the blown fuse (3/4 A)

I solved my problems with two (for me identical) docking stations behaving different simply by getting correct power supplies, but I really have no logical physical explanation for this. I still have another question here but I will start separate thread for that.
