I started this thread to continue the discussion that started in [Link: remotecentral.com]

some of the concerns that were raised

1) less hot keys
2) no global icon changes
3) cannot drag groups
4) cannot hide panels
5) system icons have too many functions (pronto icon shows transmitting = good, but also used to get into setup=bad, page numbers used to go directly to pages you might want it sometimes but not others, device name=good used to get to device page=bad)
6) rightmost button cannot be edited
7) buttons without codes show up in emulator
8) pages without active buttons show up in emulator

not meant to be negative, but since they are working on the next version, I think it is a good idea to give some comments on things we want or need.

I would add "leftmost button cannot be edited" since the Help says it is editable and shows a sample screen where it was edited. I know this contradicts Daniel's earlier information, but still, that's what the help shows...

I thought the manual said it cannot.

Does anyone else think that they will let us customize the system settings (i.e. move the stuff around or change some of the icons)

Eventually, yes.

I don't really understand this but, why carn't we have every single button customisable?, and leave it to the individual to choose, surely that would be the best solution.

Apparently full customization of the UI is coming.

In the meantime, you can come pretty close. Remember that we can turn off all of the built-in UI elements. If you do so, there's nothing to stop you from creating, for example, your own page numbers somewhere on the page and then linking them to the page overview system function.

In other words, we cannot customize system functions, but we can create user buttons which link to the system functions. The only complication is that we have to place the button on each page manually, rather than having the Pronto do it for us.

I'm already thinking I'll likely turn off the built-in device name buttons and instead create my own, linking them to my custom home pages rather than the built-in device overview. The device overview is nice, but it doesn't provide all of the functionality of my current home page (such as system on/off macros), and I really don't want to use up a hardware button to link to the home page, which is what Philips seems to be expecting us to do.

Anyone else thinking about how to handle home pages?

like David said, it is only one small button, not the end of the world (but if I was designing it, and one button needed to be fixed it would not have been one with the LCD labeled buttons)

I have been debating it, the screen is the most obvious choice, but I hate having mislabeled buttons.

I agree in general, but I really want all of the hard buttons at the bottom available for my satellite tv - since I will have menu up/down/left/right, select, Guide, Info, and Exit buttons, and if those are all hard buttons it'll be very easy to use.

I have been thinking about the mislabelled button problem, though, and what I'm planning on doing is putting a "?" button on each page which links to a help screen showing what the bottom buttons do for the current device.

I was actually talking about customizing the LCD screen interace, not the "firm" buttons below the LCD (this is what ProntoEdit calls them, because they're in between true hard buttons and soft buttons).

I agree that having "Tools" on a permanent firm button is stupid, at least for PE users who don't need *any* of the functionality hidden behind the Tools button. Once again, though, the Help says it should be customizable, so perhaps the fact that we can't customize this or the rightmost firm button is just a bug in this version of PE.

Yeah, that is a strange one, considering you CAN move items with the arrow buttons.

I ran into a bug in PENG that seems worthy of note. Under certain circumstances PENG crashes when it tries to open a previously saved PCF file, thus making the file useless. After some time trying to figure out what the problem is, I think I've narrowed it down to saving certain PCF files that have grouped items in them. I've learned not to group items then save the PCF file, and to also save under various filenames so as not to lose to much work should I encounter this problem again.

It happens completely randomly to me (same thing also happens in NEOedit).

Here's another couple of annoyances.

Can't change dimensions of an object by click/drag on a corner, you have to double click and go to the Properties dimensions tab.

Moving a panel doesn't reset any aliases to buttons on that panel.

This one is a little weird. I wanted to set up a firm button on a device to switch everything off, then go to the Device Overview screen. I found that you can't have a combination of actions and special actions on the same object, so I created a link in the actions to the Home hard button. My Home hard button is set to the Special Action "Device Overview". Doesn't work - pressing firm button looked like it sent out all the codes but stayed on the same screen.
