I think I've found a way to get slightly faster downloads. Here's how:
1. In PENG, turn on Advanced mode. 2. Save you pcf as normal, then use "Pack and Go" to save your pcf as an executable. 3. Exit PENG and find where you've saved the executable. 4. Double click the executable and a stand alone download application will load. 5. Follow the onscreen instructions.
It does seem that this stand alone downloader is faster than the one in PENG. Perhaps some others can try it and see if their experience is the same.

How long it takes? I can't try it right now but will do tonight. Mine with PENG takes about 5 or 6 minutes...

how long do steps 1-5 take :-) I think PENG users XML for saving PCFs, but then needs to translate it into what the remote uses. The pack and go feature probably saves the file in the format used by the remote, so it is a simple download.

Anthony,
Yes, it probably does take more time overall doing it that way, but at least it holds out hope that Philips may find a way to speed up the downloads inside PENG. The speed of the progress bar across the screen definately seems to be faster though doing it externally.

My PCF takes 4 mins 31 secs using Pack and Go (26 Secs after I click on Pack and Go and the rest is searching the exe file and downloading to the remote). It takes 5 mins 30 secs using PENG.

These times are pretty pathetic considering its now using USB. I think my old Pronto Pro loaded faster, and that was a larger file.
Come on Philips!!

I was doing another pack and go download and when it came to the end the remote froze on the "pronto philips" page. Nothing to do with it. I downloaded the firmware and the firmware update told me what to do and now the remote is back. I don't think I will use the pack and go thing...
Willy.
