Hi All,

I may be the last person to discover this but I figured I would post it anyway. I was having trouble with slow response on buttons. For instance I would have to hit the number buttons tap..pause..tap..pause in order to get my Tivo to respond to every press. I thought it was a firmware issue so the remote has been kind of idle while I designed a new interface and waited for a FW upgrade.

Well my wife bought some new batteries and I was ready to test the redesign so I loaded it up with the new batteries and poof it is as fast as my 1000. I had gone through 2 sets of batteries before this change so I was sure it was FW.

Well anyway just thought I would pass on my finds.

Energizer Titanium batteries work great for now. I'm sure higher power rechargeables would work too. Hurry up with the docking station Philips!

Hey Cooch,

Interesting find. I often get the same thing and it pisses me off. Sometimes I have to tap buttons several times. Possibly this is an early indication the batts are starting to slide.

Thx -Dave

I just want to let everyone know, I have found a few remotes that have had problems with random restarts. From what I can see it has turned out to be crummy batteries from Philips. Replacing the batteries seems to have restored order.

If you are in a Comcast area, make a trouble call for a remote problem then when they get there, tell them you just need a bunch of batteries. I work at Comcast and we get batteries for free, so when we get to a call that's as easy as new batteries I'm happy to give them a bag full.

I've found that hitting the reset button often speeds up the 3000 4-fold or more! The speed issue isn't necessarily a low battery problem, it's more likely a software problem caused by a gradual memory leak of some kind. Putting in fresh batteries causes a reboot which is probably giving you the observed speed boost.

When the batteries are really low, the 3000 spontaneously reboots whenever you try to send a remote code. :( That's how I know when it's time to replace the batteries! (Fortunately I have a DS3000 on the way. I hope the lithium NiMH pack provides decent battery life.)

The next time it gets slow, try giving it the one-fingered salute with a paper clip and then check the speed again! :) Until Philips corrects this bug, that's the only option available to us early adopters.

I agree on the memory leak I reset my remote all the time.

This was independant of the resets. Even with "new" batteries right after a reboot the remote was slow.
