My satellite box is capable of receiving RF signals on it's own via an antenna hookup on the rear of the unit. This is how I have been controlling the box when using the RCA remote.

Now I have the TSU3000 and want to know if I need the RFX or can I get it to work without it since the box is able to receive RF signals on it's own. Don't want to spend $100 if I don't have to.

The RF is a different frequency than your Satellite box so it won't work directly, plus the Pronto RF module changes the RF back to IR for use by the device.

If a device uses the same rf freq as the 3000/6000 pronto's. Then it can be used directly. That is if you have the ir codes for it.

Best example of this. European x-10. However, a pronto tsu-6000 must be used, because an European x-10 uses the same freq as a Pro does.

more like might be able to be used. Even if they use the same frequency it will not necessarily work. The reason it works with X10 is that X10 and Philips are using the same RF technology, The Pronto works with the X10 RF repeaters.
