I've imported some of Archer's buttons into Photoshop 7 to make modifications, but when I import back into PENG, they look fine on the setup, but in simulator, they are covered with a transparant screen of black dots. Where did I go wrong? I'm sure I've messed up a color map or something along the way, but I don't know where. Items were saved as indexed-color 8 bit bitmaps. Conversion to gray scale doesn't seem to help. What is the best way to modify existing bmp's in Photoshop?

Sounds like the buttons do not have a command associated with them. Buttons that have no actions show up on the screen like you described.

Ooops, didn't quite get the hang of that first time...

I've just downloaded DD'Arches configuration file. I have two discrete questions :

1. The file I downloaded has most of the discrete codes for a different Yamaha receiver but most of them work for my receiver (RX-V1). However, I want to (for example) add a button that has a dsp sound field called "Europe Hall C". The downloaded version I have has a "USA Hall C" that has the correct IR code for "Europe Hall C" so all I have to be able to do is somehow copy the button and edit the bitmap so that it says "Europe Hall C". I've tried right clicking and pressing "copy" but it doesn't copy to Photoshop. Surely there is an easy way to do this?

2) I'm hoping DDarche will be able to tell me how to convert the discrete codes from Yamaha's website into the discrete codes he has on his PCF and get them into the IR layer. The RX-V1 has a bunch more discrete dsp sound fields.

Thanks for any help!

To get the bitmaps out of the PCF do the following...
Make a copy of the PCF
Rename the copy from a .pcf extension to a .zip extension.
Unzip the new file.
All the bitmaps in the Zip file will now be in a directory called bitmaps.

BConway,

If you prefer, the easiest way is to grab the hex code and paste it into whatever button you want. You don't have to take the entire button if you don't want. I think you have to be in "advanced user" to do this. Open the IR code page that has the code you want. Dbl clik on the button and in the next window that opens, dbl clik on the "Learned IR Code". This will open the "Add IR code" dialog box. Now click on "View IR code" and the hex code will come up and it should already be highlighted. Mouse over it and do copy and then paste it into a new button.

Regarding the Yamaha discrete codes and creating new discrete codes from the info on the yamaha site: Andrea Whitlock and others have put together the documentation on how to create your own discrete codes for Yamaha. I tried to paste the link in here but it is too long. Go to Orignal pronto files area, then to Programs, Utilities & Documentation, then to User Written Documenation, then go to the 11th item, which is on the next page.

However, you may also be able to find all of the codes you need for the RX-V1 in the Original Pronto files section. This has been done already by many users. Browse around over there, under Devices, Yamaha receivers and there are many to choose from. Otherwise, you can spend an hour doing it yourself. You will need to get IR Tool from the original pronto files area, under IR tools and documentation,( I think) plus all of the stuff that Andrea has in her download and the extended codes from the Yamaha site. It's kind of cool to do it yourself, if you have the time.

Hope this helps...Dave
