I just got my remote and was looking through the the software.

When assigning properties to your devices, you can pick a device type, brand, and then a code set. How do you know which of the code sets to use?

I know for simple multi-device remotes (such as a VCR remote that will control your TV), knowing the brand name will get you down to a few different code sets and then it's trial and error from there.

I was wondering if there was a better way to figure out which code sets will work.

My advice is not to use the codesets, but learn the commands from your actual remote control. I'm sure others will disagree, but it works for me. Just make a device called IRcodes and then a page for each piece of equipment. Learn you commands there and link to them as needed. If you need more details let me know.

I have to agree with Archer on this topic. If you have a fairly complex system you will find it easier to customize for macros.

Another agreement with the guys on this one. Learning the IR is much better than attempting to figure out what code it is.

But I do wish the 3000 would have a learn feature built into the remote as the 2000 series did. Would love to learn IR codes without having to use the software.

Pronto 3000 has remote to remote learning. See page 19 of the Manual for details. I used the remote to remote learning for my codes. If it is like the 2000 then the software learning is very unreliable.

Manual you say? Hmmmm, I never thought of that! Seriously, I usually check these boards first. ;)

Maybe in a future software update Philips could make the code sets more useful so that we don't all spend hours learning IR codes? I would like to see code sets that can be re-named,customized, saved, and shared with other users. IF this could be done, we wouldn't all be spending time hunting for discrete codes, etc. and could focus instead on using (rather than programming) the Pronto. The current process seems a bit random, and even IF you find a code set that works, it may only have some of the codes you need or want.

How do you guys handle getting in all the codes from another touch-screen remote? One of the remotes I am replacing is a receiver remote (Pioneer VSX-49TXi - ) - this itself is like a Pronto, but I need more functionality. Anyway, it has a slew of buttons, I guess I should just create an 'IR Set' page with all of them?

Did I understand this right, can I not 'export' this set to someone else to use?

Thanks,
Leo

hours? how many remotes?

no, the IR codes are part of your PCF, so you can share the IR codes you learnt, that is one of the reason that the file section is also categorized by component.

I agree with Archer, much easier to learn commands, and Archer, the learning through software is 10,000 times better than the TSU2k's.

I personally use the software to learn my buttons because I can see if the code is right or wrong. Not that I can read hex as a second language, but you know if a converted IR code is supposed to be long or short, and after learning a command, you know how it should look by the first sets of hex... If learning through PeNG, you can see if the code was corrupted at capture.
