After having it for 3 days It has been returned to Tweeter with all my love. First, the pictures make it look as sturdy and classy as the 2000 and pro. Open it and....not! It felt as cheap as the Rav2000 that came with my Yamaha rx-z1. Also, AAA batteries? They were almost dead as of yesterday with all the problems I was having and all the downloads. ProntoeditNG...so much better and faster too...lol.
I can't even browse RC's CCF'S anymore. I have to download it and import it to see how it works on the NG.
The 2 most important reasons, one was already mentioned in a previous post and in my phone call to Philips, no one there said the far right button was going to be able to learn and/or label in the future. Most important is I don't like graphics from a previous page and/or device to be carried over to the next page and/or device. If there is a blank spot in the graphics I get background graphics when scrolling. Philips first answer was to download the new firmware, which I had done, but need to download my entire PCF again. Same thing. On the second call, after being on hold for 5 minutes to find an answer, I was told to reset the pronto but, after telling them the graphics problem is on the Emulator also, this would not fix the problem. Final solution...call us back in about a week and we'll see if we can fix the problem.
After careful consideration, the wonderful, bright LCD was not enough to warrant keeping the 3000. So I am back to the 2000, the pronto I know and love. Very dissapointed tho. I was so looking forward to this comming out I even put a downpayment on it before it was delivered to the store. Well, maybe 6 months from now when all the bugs are worked out. Hope it works better for all of you!

I agree you should try again later.

Early adoption of new exciting hardware is not for everyone. When you are an early adopter you have to deal with these things. Is it right? No but that's the way it is and has always been. Whenever a new product is released it goes through growing pains. I can't remeber any first run product from any company that did not have bugs.

Put it like this I recommended the 3000 to a buddy who is a tech guy who I know can handle the new pronto. To my boss a not so tech guy I recommended the 2000 as that is just "where he's at" older tech not as functional and customizable, but reliable.

ahhh, I give up too :(

Mine is completely crashed and I don't want to re-do a whole PCF program from scratch. I really wanted a 3000 to work for me, but the growing pains were tough. Maybe if it didn't crash so awfully, I woulda gave it more chances.

I know what you are saying Cooch. I usually can figure things out but no one at Philips can give me an answer on how to fix the problem. My 1000 and 2000 work great so to dish out another $400, I want it to at least work correctly or get an answer on how to fix it. Slower remote, slower software, slower Emulator and a button you can't program. Maybe Philips should have waited to release the 3000 until "they" got the major bugs out. Was it really neccesary to make PCF'S? I think this is the major problem that is going to be the most significant. They changed to much of a good software and remote.

I agree it could have been a bit more mature. The 1000 was the same way when it came out so I am confident Philips will solve the problems. To me the hard buttons (especially the 4 way pad) are worth the problems. The directional pad is so integrated into watching Tivo I was constantly switching from one screen to another. Now with the extra hard buttons and the 4 way I don't even have to look at the remote.

I'm sorry to hear about all the problems people are having. In getting my new pcf enabled, I probably reset my 3000 about 15 times. Since running it, it hasn't had any problems.

The major bug I had was after v14 of the contempt pcf, everytime I downloaded to the 3000, the software would crash halfway through. It made me quite angry, since it only sent half the code down and made the 3000 completely useless. I have no idea what I did in that new version, but I went back to v13 (always keep version control), and started again with no problems. Very glitchy.

When comparing the 2000 and 3000, I really like the lighter weight and the new buttons. But it's definitely not as instantaneous as the 2000. Also, I'm noticing I have to point more directly to the devices with the 3000, then I had to with the 2000.

Knowing that Philips usually doesn't come out with new remotes everyday like Sony brings out Clies, I'm sure some firmware and software updates will address these issues. Philips should take notice of customers they're frustrating though. I think it's important for everyone to email Philips on this issue.

That's strange Contempt, it seemed as tho my 3000 had a "better" range then the 2000. Before I returned it I showed a friend the difference between the 2, one being I didn't have to told the remote as horizontal as the 2000. I could see the screen better.
Cooch, I too will miss all those buttons(even tho the utter right can't be programmed). I don't have Tivo but I wanted to have TV mode and my Yamaha DSP theatre modes on those buttons so if I was watching cable or a DVD I wouldn't have to switch screens as you mentioned. I will miss those.
One thing else I did not like was with the 2000, I didn't have to see the remote to "feel" the volume up and down buttons since they rise farther up then the remote. I found I constantly had to look at the 3000 buttons because I kept hitting volume up instead of down. They were very hard to distinguish being flush.
I know I will probably get it again in the future, maybe then someone will have an answer as to why I was getting the graphics from the previous page and device. I was on DVD and it was still saying VHS with vhs background graphics. I wasted more battery power going directly to the device list and choosing it but that was the only way that the problem would go away.
