The problems with the hard buttons I described below were later discovered to be caused by the import tool, not by particular device codes or hardware issues. See latest response for more info.

I guess this is related to the known issue of the hard buttons not sending the IR at the normal speed. I thought I'd mention that in the case of muti-Tivo device commands, this makes the hard buttons rather useless. I have the latest firmware update installed (TSU3000__V2.0.38.1.zip) I put some of the same Tivo device 1 commands on both the hard and soft buttons to see if there were any differences. (Both the hard and soft buttons link to the same hidden button which has the IR code.) The commands from the soft buttons work fine. The commands from the hard buttons for pause, play, and rewind are misinterpretted by Tivo, probably because of the speed issue. I even had the TSU3000 relearn the device 1 codes just to make sure it wasn't a code import problem. No luck. Please fix this as soon as possible, Philips. I sent them an email today detailing the problem.

I'm just hoping all these problems are fixable with firmware/software updates and aren't hardware related. I'm sending in my warranty card just to be on the safe side. I'm looking forward to using this device when they finally get it working right. In the meantime, I'll have to keep using the TSU2000 *sigh*.

Which Tivo?

No problem with DirecTivo codes on the hard buttons. Philips DSR6000 working good here except for the normal "slowness" of the 3000. I have my bottom 2 mapped to rew and ff and pause to the mute button and they all work fine.

I have the Tivo Series 2 and the original Tivo stand-alone units (which ironically are also made by Philips) in the same room. I'm using the multi-Tivo remote feature which allows more than one Tivo to be controlled by the same remote sending slightly different codes to each. These multi-Tivo device codes all work fine on the TSU2000. It's got to be related to the slow IR on the hard buttons. I noticed one command took over a second before the Tivo responded.

I looked at the differences between the play code for the two different Tivo units. The codes are almost identical but for maybe three numbers:

I have to second Cooch. I also have a DirecTV with Tivo, and I linked the hard buttons to softkeys with learned IR codes. But I've had no problems yet.

I'll try it again when they fix the hard button speed issue. But for now, it's busted. Any other Tivo Series 2 stand-alone users out there with a similar experience?

It must be series 2 or stand alone related. I have a buddy who has a series 2 stand alone. If nothing happens by this weekend I can enter some codes and go over his house and try it out and let yoiu know.

The below theory is not correct. See next response for details.

After some testing I can report that the above problem is definitely related to the use of the multi-Tivo device codes, not because they are the stand-alone units. I programmed the 3000 with some of the Tivo codes from the older remote that defaults to Tivo device 0. This code set is designed to work on all Tivo boxes, even if they're programmed as Tivo device 1, 2 etc. These codes all worked fine from the hard buttons. But the Tivo device 1 codes still fail from the hard buttons closest to the touchscreen. Again, these same device 1 codes work flawlessly on the 2000.

After more tedious trial and error, I've decided the problem described above was caused by some sort of ccf import bug. Originally I had imported my 2000 ccf into the 3000 using the import tool. The imported devices were causing the Tivo hard button code corruption. It has nothing to do with the multi-Tivo device codes or hardware issues, fortunately. Now that I've created a new pcf from scratch and re-learned the IR codes, there have been no problems with the hard buttons.
