PENG has messed up all the links I had created so far: I have built some sort of a library with all the codes learnt from my various remotes. I keep those stored in “hidden” devices and link them to the respective function in my layout of choice which is residing in the same pcf. My thought is that this gives me more flexibility if I want to change the layout later. Then I would just need to link those library codes to the new layout/bitmaps and I would not have to go through this code learning process again. But now I find that PENG has mixed up the links I created this pm. They are now all pointing to other functions. I am not sure what could have caused it. I changed the order of some devices and pages (trusting that this would not have any impact on the link integrity (like e.g. Excel).
Anybody ideas what could have caused it? I need to know what I can do and can’t do.

(Any rumors by when Philips will release the next PENG beta version. Whenever I add a “symbol” to a button label, PENG adds a “DTS” in front of it?????? ? It is amazing how half baked this sw is….)

Thanks!

Not sure what you mean about adding a symbol but check the thread titled bitmap importing. Some of the graphics I was importing were wrong, Archer's suggestions helped to cure the problem. Supposedly there will be a firmware release sometime this month. Hope this helps. jcl

One possibility for ur links to have got messed up is that you might have saved the PCF with groups. This is a known problem with PENG. If you have the original version without groups, try it.
BTW, I tried symbols on the button, page & device name but I did not get any DTS symbol and its fine!!!

Thanks guys!

Jcl:

I try to explain my DTS issue better: go to any “Device”, open any “Page”, open/double click any “Button”, go to “Label” , select either “Set of Symbols (1)” or “..(2), and select any symbol and voila: you get a “DTS” plus the symbol you selected…..

(I also heard about the firmware update (supposedly either this week or next). I hope this will take care of some of the TSU bugs. I was wondering if there were any rumors about a PENG update to take care of the bugs there..)

Zombie:

Thanks for the tip with the groups: Do you mean there are potential problems by just having Groups in a pcf file or only if this link comes from or points to a Button that is part of a Group? I was trying to find a thread, but unsuccessful. Could you point me in the right direction?

Thanks!

Thank you for the information you provided. I tried it out but I did not get the DTS symbol. I tried it on my Win2000 Dell PC.
W.r.t groups, I had few problem with links. If I had links(the links needs not be associated with the group!!!) and groups in my PCF, some PCFs loaded but the links were incorrect. Sometimes, the PCF crashes while loading. So, as of now, I have avoiding groups while saving. I hope that there will be a new version of PENG with this problem solved!

Zombie;

So if I am hearing you right, this is what you are saying: AVOID grouping or at least UNGROUP everything before saving.

Interesting how differently the very same software performs on different systems. I get this DTS thing, but PENG has not crashed (yet) onces (using it now for a few days) on me.

You are perfectly right!!!

Good to know that. can you give some information on your system so that I can think of trying it on any of my friends PC which closely matches your configuration. I can live with the DTS bug rather than software crashes!!

I have exactly the same problem as Magic Bob. The DTS thing pops up whenever I choose one of those "special characters" (I use the down and up arrow in a couple of places for example). But this is really not a serious problem because the DTS can simply be deleted after it appears.

I also have had no stability issues with PENG. It has not crashed in the 3 weeks I have had it. I am running Win2K on a PIII-800 Dell.

I got a plain P4 "self made" system running XPHome SP1 with all the "latest and greatest" patches - no OC or other fancy stuff. What HW specifics could be of interest?

The information you have provided is sufficient.

Since you also use the same OS (Win2k), I think that it is not a problem based on OS. Thanks for the information. I had crashing problem with saving of groups and links. After I avoided that problem, I did not have any crashes. Have you tried groups along with Links?

Zombie,

I defintely use links but as yet have not done much with groups... I don't think that I have any groups set in any of my configurations.

I don't beleive that links have anything to do with the problem of crashes. I have hundres of links and no problems. It is grouping that seems to cause the problems.

Archer,
When tried to create a new PCF from scratch by adding a few buttons and created groups, copied & pasted them and moved them with arrow keys, saved and loaded again. It did not crash. When I created a PCF with groups & links, it crashed.
I know that links work properly but I think that links do not work properly with groups.
I also had crashes with groups (when I tried after seeing your comment) but with imported CCFs.

Magic,

I too have seen the "DTS label" thing, when I use some of the special characters in a button label. I just delete the DTS part and the label is ok.
