Here's a weird one. I've spent a lot of time making custom device icons (thanks for the ideas and steps, Archer). They are all named differently based on size and state (pressed or released). When I import into PENG some of them import correctly others do not. For instance I have an icon for DSS 1 and a separate one for DSS 2. After importing DSS 1, I tried to import DSS 2, in the preview window, when clicking on an icon the correct one shows up, as soon as I double click to complete the importing process the icon for DSS 1 appears. They have different file names. Or, if I delete the DSS 1 icon I can then import DSS 2. This also happens with other icons such as it may show the pressed state at the wrong time or under the pressed state window it will show the released state. This is weird. Also, when I imported my 2000 configuration all of the On, Off, and Power icons changed into On. The icons I used were the small black icons from this site. Downloading to the remote does not cure the problem, what is shown on screen is what you get on the remote.

P.S. I just uploaded the file I have been discussing so some of the icons do not appear correctly, and they are a first attempt, they also look better on screen than on the pronto guess I have more work to do. Hopefully we can get some trading soon.

Jon

I have had the same problems, I started with archers file as a base and took his bitmap (from MainB on home which look great) into photoshop elements 2.0 and changed VHS to SVHS and put my device name below. Paste one in and it works, pasted in a second different one and it shows fine in the import bitmap window, but when it appears on the layout, it looks like the one I removed...
I have since pasted these and others all at the same time into the default file and they work there.

On Jon's BMP he had two BMP's named DSS1 and DSS2 and if you put DSS1 in the PCF then DSS2 would show up as DSS1 and vice versa. To fix the problem we took one of the files (DSS2) and in Paint Shop Pro resized it a couple of pixels bigger (from 63x65 to 65x67 pixels) and renamed it. We then took the renamed file and resized it back to the original DSS2 size (63x65) and gave it back the original name. Now both files will work in PENG. Just renaming the file would not do it, the file had to physicaly be changed.

Had a similar problem. I had reworked a bit map, saved it, and moved it to the gallery. It appeared in the preview window of the gallery correctly but reverted to the original when it was opened on a page. Resaved it 1 pixel larger and the problem was solved. Thanks, Dave

I found that I had to make most of the changes to the bitmap to the upper half of it. If the changes are to the lower half, NG doesn't pick it up. Saving it a pixel larger could solve the problem it the bitmap you are working on wasn't already the size of the screen, and if you aren't planning on interchanging the two. Hopefully this is yet another bug that Philips will find and fix rather than either of these poor solutions.

I have another workaround for this problem that worked well for me. The process is to replace the bitmap directly in the PCF file. All of these steps are done in Windows and NOT PENG.

- MAKE A BACKUP COPY OF YOUR CURRENT PCF!!!

- Create a new file folder somewhere in Windows.

- Select your current PCF file in Windows Explorer, then Shift-right-click and do Open-With and select PKZip or your favorite unzipper.

- Extract the files into that folder you created (leave PKZip open).

- Figure out which bitmap_id is the file you need to replace (by opening in Paint or using Thumbnail view).

- Copy the replacement bitmap into the bitmaps sub-folder, giving it the same name as the old one.

- Back in PKZip, select Compress->Add Files and on the window it opens do:
a) Preferences: Relative Path, Include Subdirectories (Recurse), NOT-read-only.
b) Add Options: Update Files
c) Click on the bitmaps directory and do "Add Directory".
d) Select OK
e) For the recursive top-level, select the folder you created (one above bitmaps) and select OK.

- After if finishes the "compression", verify that the date of the bitmap you replaced is different than the other file dates. Also, if there are extra files in the compression, such as the Bitmaps directory itself, or the Thumbnails system file, etc. DELETE THEM.

You're finished. (After writing this out, it sounds more complicated than it is.)

It's also possible to create a PCF directly, without using the Update method. The trick there is to get the Comment right.
