A couple of days ago I tried using the revert command on the RC5000 (I do all programming offline except I.R. codes and Macros) but it reverted me to the factory default cff. After seeing Ron's post about the developer setting ( [Link: remotecentral.com] - 15th post) I tried setting my config as the default and guess what? It worked!

My question is this: I had 81% free memory, I make a change and revert. It resets to the factory default ccf, not mine. I now have only 50% free (less with the old RC5000 firmware I think!) because the original factory default ccf was bigger right? So, now I've set mine as the factory default what happens to the original and the memory that it occupied.

I'm betting that the original is still there - is there any way to free up this memory?

If you want to change the factory revert to file (done by setting Developer=1 in pronto.ini and downloading the ccf to the remote with the checkbox checked for "configuration is factory default") the ccf file you use must be smaller than 184kb. If it is it will become the revert to ccf. If it is larger, the original factory default file will remain the revert to file.

Regardless of the file size you use, you will not affect the free memory of the remote (380kb for RC5000, 1404kb for the RC5000i).

The revert to ccf is compressed and loaded into a small buffer memory within the firmware allocation of the remote's ram. NOT THE FREE MEMORY SECTION!

Nothing can be done to increase or decrease free memory other than changing the contents of the active ccf.

Thanks Eric. I was wondering as well how this affects the actual remote RAM.

Since you seem to know so much about it...
Does the firmware allocation section buffer also take care of screen (re)builds?
What I mean is, if the factory default ccf is as small as possible does this help speeding up the screen rebuilds?

Thanks.

"factory default" ccf is compressed and stored in pre-allocated flash memory (not ram). so it has no effect on run time memory allocation. i hope this helps.

Kristian: this question is answered in the FAQ document, section A4-06.
