I guess this is somewhat related to my previous thread, but is there any information about any up and coming remotes. I know about the Denon Aktis, how about any revisions to the Pronto, replacements for it, anything else?

Fidge,
A while back, Daniel ran a thread on wishes for the next generation Pronto. It was very extensive on what users wanted.

Every suggestion in that thread, and threads throughout the forum were submitted to the design team. I know they were VERY excited about many ideas.

Which ones will be incorporated, we do not yet know.

Afraid you are left hanging like the rest of us.

Honestly, I have not yet seen or heard of a remote close to the Pronto in terms of screen customizability. That's not to say there aren't other good remotes out there (or coming out)... just that none of them allow you to create an entire interface like the Pronto does. Now if only Philips would let us create MORE of an interface... ;-)

There is a color Pronto that should be coming out in 2001

It's pretty much a given that it'll still be a "Pronto" ;-)

This does beg the question, what'll they call it?

Pronto Pro? (Sounds like some sort of download accelerator.)

Pronto 2? (Probably too computerish. Pronto 2 TS2000 doesn't sound right.)

Pronto Color? (Well duh. Not very catchy though.)

Pronto Vivid? (Something photo-related?)

Pronto TS2000 (Still not catchy -- but probably what it'll be.)

Pronto Deluxe ("Over 230,000 color pixels".)

Power Pronto (For those power movie-watching users. Or perhaps it uses an AC power cord?)

iPronto/ePronto (Available in transparent colored shells!)

Pronto Via?

Nah to much like the Elan it's getting ideas from, and an old character as well.

Palm Pronto? - eh.. no.

Pronto Mondo - Big and boasting, but sound like a drink.

Pronto HT - Bad Idea

Forget it Daniel.. Your guess is better than mine..

I'll bet between all of us.. One could certainly guess the right answer..

Sounds like a lame contest with no prize. I'm game. ;)

Color Pronto??
Pronto Color?
Pronto C?
Super Pronto
Pronto II
The last Pronto you'll ever need. (until the next one comes out)

The Marantz Version will probably be known as the RC5000MKIIIC-Pro. I think the Marantz ad agency gets paid by the letter/number.

Taking a leaf from the music world, how about:
"Absolutely the only Remote you will ever need - that is until we have to issue an update"?

The subsequent could then be:
"Absolutely the only Remote you will ever need - that is until we have to issue an update - Two"

Philips is telling their dealers that the color Pronto will have a bit more memory. They are also talking about adding some RF capability, like the Denon Atkis. That is, RF to a base unit that repeats IR. This feature may even be some sort of add-on to the 1000. No firm details. I've heard release dates as early as November and as late as February '01 for 'Pronto Mondo' (I like that one).

Why even call it a pronto?

URCal?
SmURCal (Smart URCal)?
hURCules?
gIRcon (great IR controller)?
wIRcon (wonderful...)?

OK, they all sound awful. I just imagine how the Pronto got it's name... Philips CEO said to his design team "We need a great remote to ship with our great systems!". The team leader asked "name it?". The slightly deaf CEO thought he'd asked "Need it?", and he replied "Pronto!".

Following that naming strategy we should note that philips doesn't seem so desperate to bring out an update to the hardware. The key word might be "eventually". Does anyone know a nice short word for "eventually" in spanish or any other language?

Dave ;-)
