You can count me in.

I'm very happy with the remote but the screen has it's problems. I have to constantly leave the backlight on to have it readable and I'm always having to adjust the contrast as it doesn't stay at a constant setting. I'm using a silver pronto.

I too want to pick up a TSU2000, but will wait untill they get a better screen. If no new screen comes along. I'll get a different remote. I refuse to support a company that uses low quality parts to save money.

I have a Pronto TS-2000 with charger coming mail order tomorrow. Does it needs to go back for a new screen or am I going to have to buy and install a good screen? I have no use for a low contrast lcd screen.

Have you seen thread 9386 ?

There you can find a response from Harold, who seems to be VERY HAPPY with the screen of his new TSU2000 (compared to his old TS1000).
Maybe Philips is using a better screen with the TSU2000 model ?
Can someone else make a comparison, please ?
Daniel, you should also have both models - can you help ?

How's it going fellas? I was unaware of how terribly dim the LCD of my pronto TS1000 was, until I recently purchased the TSU2000. The TSU2000s' LCD is by far sharper and crisper. The black and grey colors are more refined, than that of the TS1000. I initially thought that the rechargeable batteries did not have enough juice(amps) to power the LCD of the TS1000. So, I swapped the batteries(the included akline)from TS2000 with the rechargeable, just to see if it would have the same dim effect. Fortunately, the TSU2000 stood sharp and crisp, I then concluded that the LCD of the latter model TS1000 were probably that of a lower grade. GET THE TSU2000 !!!

I'm UK based and also find the LCD to be very poor quality, especially at the price.

Count me in for the petition.

Thanks.

SmartHome sells the Pronto (at retail) and they have a photo of one being held in hand. I have a RC5000i. The LCD brightness in the picture looks just like my RC5000i. So, I'd like to know how this compares to what people are seeing with the new units.

Count me in for the petition please ! I phoned the official Philips Pronto helpdesk in the Netherlands several times about this problem, starting on september 5th this year. Every time I phoned them they promised me to give me an answer to this as soon as possible. I'm still waiting for them to give me a phonecall.I can probably wait forever. If somebody wants to call them, the phone number is: 00 31 53 4849106)

Larry,

I just received a new TXU-2000/01 2 meg Pronto on Friday Dec 8,2000. It has the blue-green backlight where the one in the picture has the characteristic green backlight of many lcd systems.

I have been a display engineer, and unfortunately cannot answer your question since it is very difficult to accurately photograph a backlighted (or front lighted) display panel for comparision purposes.

Mine has a problem with the touch screen and is not working properly (DOA).

The resolution of mine looks good, but the contrast leaves a lot to be desired and I have seen considerably better backlighted displays. That said, I have never seen one of the earlier prontos to tell you whether this is better or worse. I would speculate the contrast ratio of mine to be 5:1 with 10:1 a much more acceptable ratio for backlighted displays.

I have a IRONMAN Indiglo watch that is considerably better if that is a fair comparison. The watch doesn't have to contend with a touchscreen on the surface, either.

The watch isn't a good comparison for LCD contrast, since it only has to display black -- the Pronto displays three shades, and it seems all such screens feature lower contrast ratios as a side effect. My TSU2000 has slightly less contrast than my original TSU2000, and a slightly different color (bluer) but it's more than readable.

If anyone is interested, I am a Pronto dealer and I just ran across a box that had 5 European silver Prontos all with the older MUCH BRIGHTER and crisper LCD screens. I am letting them go for $265 + shipping.

Email me if interested.

Thank you,
Wael

Hi I live in Ireland and have ordered a Pronto TSU-2000 I have downloaded the user manual for the remote and I am just wondering what marks would anyone that has one give out of 10.
I also would like to know is it possible to customize the button faces by (copying a picture of a TV channel logo and reducing the size to 32 x 32 in 1,2,4 or in 8 bit and paste on to a new button face) I dowloaded pront edit 1.05 and played around with it and it works on the program but will it look ok when I upload it to the remote?.
Just one more question how fast is the response time when a button on the LCD screen in pressed (is it as fast as a normal remote).
If anyone has any answers you can E-Mail me @ [email protected] Thanks Guy's :-)
