I lost my serial cable for the pronto. Anybody know where I can get a replacement. Should I order from philips or Is there some other cables work as a replace ment?

Thank in advance

Someone gave specifics in another thread here, where If I remember correctly, they said that the serial cable for a Kodak DC-20/25 digital camera would work with the Pronto, and that they had picked one up from Buy.com for under $14.

If you search the forum for kodak, you will probably find that thread quickly.

It was Kodak DC215 and several other models.

The cable for the Kodak DC-210 works perfectly. I just happened to have one of these cameras before I bought the pronto, so now I a spare.

Try going to a camera shop, or shop on line, for kodak accessories. Chances are you will be able to compare prices against the Philips cable and the Kodak cable.

Thank you for all the responses. I searched Kodak from the forum. I found out how to make the cable myself. I used an old computer speaker cable with standard streo jack and I bought D-Subminiature Crimp-Type connector ($1.49) and Hood($0.99) from Radio Shack. I connected center cable(red in my speaker cable) to D's 2, second(white in my speaker) to D's 3 and the last(usally outer cable without any color wrap) to D's 5. It works perfect. You should buy crimp-type connector unless you are willing to solder it eletrically. It cost me $2.59 including tax and old speaker cable, and of course some of my time. The funny thing is that, after I succeeded to make my own cable. My wife found the original cable!!!! Huh. OK now I have backup cable anyway :-)

Very cool! Maybe we can get these directions added to the FAQ. This is always a good backup plan in a pinch.

Hi

I have some REAL Philips cables. I accidently left them out on some warranty returns, and they told me to keep them.

I'll happily post you one airmail, for free. Anything to help a fellow Pronto user ! :-)

E-mail your address details directly to [email protected] and i'll get it straight in the post

For those of you not willing to make your own cables (that's me:)) you can purchase the Kodak cable that someone above said is identical to the Pronto cable for 15 dollars. I want a few of these because I have 3 PC's (2 at home one at work) and I hate pulling cables:)

Just a note. You can buy the cable from Philips for $6.00 plus shipping/handling and tax.

After much calling around, and being snubbed by J&R Electronics, I found the Pronto cable at 800/705-2000. That's a Philips parts depot in the USA. They told me it was part number 310 420 050 961 and would cost $10.78 shipped from NC to TX.

Mark, i've got a question for your topic because i must build an cable for me too. Is it correct that you connect the cabel direc to the D Subminiature Crimp-Type, with out any diskret items , like resitor or any thing like that). A question about the colours of the stereo jack. When i look at my stereo jack, there are three contact areas. Which is the contact plate for the red, the white and the outer cable (without any color)? Is ist possible to receive a wiring diagram?
best regards

That is a 9 year old thread, he probably isnt a member anymore or no longer has the remote.

Here is a link to building your own cable, I would recommend using a multimeter as well as solder type ends

There's no worse feeling than that millisecond you're sure you are going to die after leaning your chair back a little too far.
