Further to a lengthy conversation today with a respresentative from Philips, please take this as FAIR WARNING that Philips WILL NOT be responsible for damage to Pronto Remote Controls or PC serial ports caused by incorrect use of / or serial cable termination between PC's and Pronto Remotes.

Note that all Prontos are loaded with software at the factory which also verifies that all remotes are shipped with serial ports which have been 100% quality control tested.

This post is a FAIR WARNING to avoid warranty claims which WILL NOT be honored.

Further, previous statements on behalf of Philips that they will ship cables to registered owners are true. Shipments are scheduled to begin within the next 7 days.

As I have previously posted, Metronet IS NOT in the cable manufacturing business although our offer to supply all previous, current and future customers with the correct cable still stands. We expect shipments of cables to commence on Wednesday 1/20/99.

jack,
do you know if Phillips will be supplying an adapter for the pronto cable to people who want to use pc emulation software on a macintosh?

Kevin,

To my knowledge, this subject has come up before and at this time, again to my knowledge, there are no immediate plans to supply any cables other than the std DB-9 serial to stereo plug as outlined previously for use on WIN based PC's.
Sorry. I will however mention this to the people at Philips again to get a reading or at least perhaps a metod of connection suggestion for MAC's and using a MAC to WIN emulation program. I cannot of course make any promises that there will be any positive result from my inquiry.
I also do suggest you serach this board on other posts as the subject has been reviewed in some detail previously.

Does this mean that if a Pronto owner has previously registered that the shipment of the cable will be automatic? I have read various contradictory information on this site regarding this. Could you please clarify to the best of your knowledge. Thanks.

Steve,

Even though you registered previously, I would suggest registering again for insurance. If you're duplicated in the system, that's better than not being in the system at all as the queries will eliminate dups is my guess.
So, best idea, register again as soon as possible and I believe you'll get your cable from Philips.

Hi Jack

Would the shipment of these cables include International sales, namely UK ?

Thanks again for your help.

Tony,

I'll check in with the "powers controlling" and try and get an answer for you.
European owners may get shipped out of Belgium perhaps, which would make sense to me, assuming the logistics are possible.
