So this is what it does and does not do. What component do I need to replace?

1) The hard keys work
2) screen displays but is not reactive to touch
3) was able to upload and save all programming.

Is it a matter of replacing the touch screen in which case I would get another pronto or similar self programming remote or is it a component I can replace on its circuit board?

Problem solved: Based on my research of a similar issue with the rc-6000, I opened up the unit and reset the ribbon to the lcd and problem over. Advise to others: Even if ribbon looks aligned, reset it anyway because it might not be!
