I have a Venturer PLV16198 19” HDTV / CRT that I don't have a remote for. I have by googling, lurking, and trial and error determined that it haphazardly uses NEC1 device 04. In my search, I have discerned that the Venturer website and Tech Supt are useless, but their was a suggestion to try LG/Goldstar or GE Codes on Universal Remotes for TV/DVD Combos. (My TV doesn't have a DVD.)

I have found that "LG MU-50PZ90V PLASMA W-DISCRETE.ccf" (found on this site) works properly for the low functions OBC (00 thru 04), but nothing higher works i.e. 11 Input).

I have used MakeHex, DecodeCCF, ProntoEdit and various Excel workbooks, but just can't seem to generate code that works for Arrow, input, menu.... Any light that you can shed on this issue would be greatly appreciated.

Below is the Hex that works and doesn't work. Most of the working codes are based on LG MU-50PZ90V PLASMA W-DISCRETE.ccf, most of the rest where generated with MakeHex (NEC1 device 04 (have tried 04FB, 3,5,6 and other) none of which work except UP Arrow which erroneously works as Closed Caption. Hex from Zenith-LG Generic with LG DVD_VCR_11-11-2005.ccf (device: 04 sub: FB) doesn’t work at all. Note: MakeHex NEC2 device 04 successfully created functioning Vol+ and Vol-.

Power On: (tested & works) (Src: LG MU-50PZ90V PLASMA W-DISCRETE.ccf) (learned, Frequency = 1000000/(109 * .241246) = 38029, after that I'm lost!)

This seems to imply that if you have the menu displayed then the Vol and Ch buttons are the arrow butons.

3FG,

Thanks for the reply. Makes me feel a little nonplused because I have spent hours trying to make these work. So NEC1 / Device 4 is correct, but some of the function numbers are incorrect.

Most the codes you provided do work. Yeah! The ones that don't work include YUV, AV In, Sleep, arrow (up-dw-left-right). I have not tested all as most I wouldn't use anyway. Since I can use Function to control the YUV AV PC input that's not a big deal. Sleep also not important since I doubt I would use that feature anyway.

WRT arrow buttons: The ch and vol buttons (with the hex that I am using) don't work as arrows in the menu. When the menu is displayed the vol +/- buttons control vol. CH +/- in menu don't seem to do anything when in menu.

The arrows in the menu are very important since controlling the menu from the buttons on the TV are a royal PITA.

Any suggestions regarding the arrows would be greatly appreciated. I don't really want to try all 256 functions. Also, noticed that Enter was not on the list.

Thanks again.

Gee, I was about to suggest that you try all 256 functions.

You have done so much incredible work so far that either you've got the correct codes but haven't explored far enough to find them, or the TV somehow uses codes from more than one codeset (which I only just heard of as possible a few days ago).

Back when Pantel was in business, I used those same IR programs to create a Pronto TS1000 program that gave me all 256 codes for one of their sets.

Of course, I already have a Pronto TS1000 and I don't have any idea what kind of electrobatics you have to go through to make these codes... I don't remember you saying what actual remote you are generating codes with.

Anyway, you really should run through all the codes. Once I had done the work you have done, it took me about an hour and a half at Pantel to verify and discover everything that worked.

A discouraging part might be that some codes will, say, only work then the menu is up, and the menu will only stay up for five seconds without getting a command, so you have to work out a routine for getting the menu back up to try more buttons. But you've got all the commands!
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.

Thanks again 3FG.

Your suggested codes didn't match exactly, but did provide enough info so that with additional trial and error I got the following keys mapped out. Sound is about the only thing missing now (not a big issue and not worth addition effort). I read somewhere on the net that the OBC codes over about 200 may not work on a "normal" remote which could explain why AV In, YUV In, and PC In are not working, but I can access these from the Input Key. Thanks again for all your help. Regards.

Here are the codes.

Equipment: Venturer PLV16198 19” HDTV / CRT
Protocol: NEC1 (Unless Otherwise Noted)
Device #: 04 (LG)

Function (OBC) = Operation
00 = Ch Up/Arrow Up
01 = Channel Dw
02 = Vol Up
02 = Vol Up (NEC2 Protocol)
03 = Vol Down
03 = Vol Dw (NEC2 Protocol)
04 = Menu
06 = null
08 = Power On
09 = Mute
14 = null
26 = Last Channel (Previous)
37 = Function (Input Select)
38 = null
40 = Picture (Screen settings)
54 = null
58 = Info (Display)
64 = Closed Caption (Subtitle)
71 - Arrow Up
72 = Arrow Down
75 = null
76 = Format (Aspect Ratio)
80 =null
88 = null
89 = Arrow Left
90 = Arrow Right
91 = Exit
170 = null
196 = null
197 = null
213 = null
214 = null
unknown = Sound

Ernie,

RE - arrow keys

Yes, I did discover last night that SOME, but NOT ALL of the ch +/- and Vol +/- codes do indeed work when the menu is up. When I first start testing, I wasn't so good at documenting the codes, and I tried codes from many different sources. So I don't remember and didn't document everything I tried. And I may have made a mistake (horror, gasp) when I originally tested the ch +/- and Vol +/- codes.

For this TV, there are additional codes for arrows as well ch +/- and Vol +/-. Interesting... I could never find the correct code for Up Arrow even though I poked all round the Dw Arrow (72) and L (89)/R(90) Arrow codes. What I finally ended up with is this:

Ch + (00) for Up
Down Arrow (72)
Left Arrow (89)
Right arrow (90)

It rather irritates the perfectionist side of me that I can't find the Up Arrow code, but functionally it works.

I did learn a lot about NEC1, NEC2 and perhaps someone else will benefit from my efforts too.

Also, I'll never buy another Venturer product. As far as I can tell they make nothing. They just re-brand many other manufacturers products. That's not so bad, but their tech support is horrible and their web site documentation is about the worst I've ever seen. Documentation for out-of-production products is not even accessible through their web site (it's hidden either intentionally or by incompetence). Next time, I'll buy from a company that provides good support for their out of production products.

BTW: The manual for this TV is available from this URL: [Link: venturer.com]

Regards, Alan

The Pronto Hex for Info decodes as function 64. Closed Caption also decodes as function 64. Maybe a cut and paste error?

Are you quite sure that Up isn't function 71? Considering that the other 3 arrow buttons had the function numbers I posted, it seems really likely that the 4th should work also.

3FG,

You are correct, I must have had typos and/or cut and paste errors.

The follow are working codes:
58 = Info (Display)
64 = Closed Caption (Subtitles)
71 = Up Arrow

One of the quirks of using the Palm M515 with NoviiRemote software as a remote is that once the hex is saved, the hex is no longer visible. It makes QA a little tedious and pasting Pronto-style hex is cumbersome. NoviiRemote uses Pronto-style hex for it's coding, but can't read CCF files. A NoviiRemote tool such as ProntoEdit would be a big help. Alas, with Palm dead... it's not likely that an improved version on NoviiRemote for Palm will be issued.

Thanks for all your help. Regards.
