Have cisco rng200 and xantech 789-44 connector block and dinky link. I want my pronto remote to emit a signal only to the dinky link and not directly to the cisco (because I want to take advantage of power sensor on xantech). I have covered the rng200 with a lot of thick black tape to block its ir sensor on front but I can not stop the direct signal from the pronto getting to it. What am I doing wrong?

Can you cover the box with a black trash bag and try again?

Yes black trash bag blocks it.

Then, you have some bleed-through somewhere in the box itself (maybe an extra opening you need to cover).

It sounds as though the dinky link is very close to the box, too, meaning the Pronto's signal is full strength at the box, as that's where you're pointing. If you can move the dinky link so you point less at the box, that might help some, too; or put the box in a cabinet.

Just to sharpen my senses here, what is the drawback as regards the video sensor if the Pronto signal gets to the box?

(By "box" I mean the Cisco thing; I didn't even check to see just what kind of box it is.)

The reason I wanted the RNG200N cisco cable box to only get its signal from that xantech is as follows:

1) I do not believe the rng200n has descrete codes
2) I have a system where I turn on the TV, preamp, cable box and their are other connections ie dvd, tape, tuner etc
3) On the pronto home screen, hitting the button "cable" turns on tv, preamp, and cable box and then the home screen jumps to another screen I call cable-num which are the channels I can choose.
4) if i return to the home screen ie exiting out of the cable-num screen, then I have to hit the cable button again on the pronto
5) My intentions are to get back to teh cable-num screen but what happens is the cable box turns off (toggle on -off)
6) If the cable box only sees the xantech signal, I could use the xantech in such a way (? toad command) that the second push on the cable button does not turn off the cable box because the xantech can sense the tv is on and not emit to the cable box when I push the cable button again on pronto.
