Newbie here. I am rehabbing a vintage Panasonic video projector, model PT-M1085U, to use at our college. The projector seems to work but I need a remote to set it up and make many necessary adjustments. If I can't find the remote it seems my only choice is to get a Pronto TS1000 because there is a file here at Remote Central that is supposed to work for this projector on a TS1000.

My first question is will any other Pronto family remotes work? The TS1000 is hard to find and expensive ($75). Is there something better but compatible with the .ccf file and the Panasonic projector.

Another question: what is the pinout for the cable to connect the TS1000 to a PC? I plan to find a legacy PC on campus and load ProntoEdit on it in order to transfer the .ccf file into the Pronto. Is this a good plan?

Bottom line, what is a prudent path (cost is an issue, but success is what I am after) for me to get a fully functional remote for our projector?

I am more familiar with Macs than PCs but the IT people can help me with any PC issues.

Thanks to all for any help.

Use any pronto for which the editor will support import of CCF files. This includes the Next Generation or Pro remotes. As cost is an issue, I suggest you find a TSU3000 or preferable TSU7000 on ebay and that will do just fine. You will then want the corresponding editor available in the Next Generation (NG) Files section.

The pinout for the TSU1000 cable (kodak digital camera cable) can be found in the Classic Pronto FAQ.

Thank you Lyndel.

I will try to find a TSU7000. (It seems the TSU3000 has a pesky unresponsive screen problem.)

If I understand correctly the workflow is as follows:

1. Acquire ccf compatible remote (Classic, NG or Pro)
2. Install compatible editor on a compatible PC
3. Download ccf file for Panasonic projector from RemoteCentral
4. Use PC and editor to load ccf file into remote via appropriate cable.

Are there any gotchas?

Has anyone out there done this for the Panasonic PT-1085U or 1083U projectors?

Thanks again to all.

There is another approach which may be quite cheap. Some remotes made by Universal Electronics (UEI) have setup codes which operate the Panasonic projector. The remotes are all hard button remotes, so functions like Keystone won't have a mnemonic button label, and probably you would need to print up a "cheat sheet" that lists button names that correspond to the functions.

Functions like Power or Menu and arrow buttons are programmed already, but for other functions, you would need to enter a 5 digit number (which I can supply) for each button.

Remotes include
Radio Shack RS 15-100/133/134/135 Some RS stores have closeouts of these for $1
Atlas (1054/1055/1056) remotes provided by a variety of cable companies
OneForAll URC-8820/10820
Cox 7820B

Nearly any UEI manufactured remote (So-called JP1 remotes) can be programmed if you make a JP1 interface cable, whcih you can hook up to a PC or Mac.

Thank you, 3FG. It looks like I can get one of the Radio Shack remotes for around $12.00. There are no corporate stores in my area that have the $1.00 sales.

So, how can I get the 5 digit numbers from you?

I'll assume that you get a RS 15-133 or 134 or 135. Internally these have identical firmware, but the 135 has the most buttons, and the 133 the least.

Assign setup code 1410 to the TV button. I'll use the Menu button as an example.
To program an individual button: (Make sure the remote is in TV mode.)

1) Press P until the remote blinks twice
2) Enter 994 (2 blinks)
3) Tap P
4) Enter 00005 from the below listing
5) Tap Menu
The remote should blink twice to indicate success.

After some additional thought....

Buy the RS remote and don't think twice about it. As you don't have a PC, you will find yourself going back and forth with your IT department as you add additional equipment.

Thanks everyone. I have ordered a Radio Shack 15-135 remote. Couldn't find one for .97 but on Amazon found one for 10.00 plus shipping.

3FG, how in the world did you come up with the codes for such a particular, obscure, old piece of equipment?

You are very kind to supply them to me. You are helping higher education in a very poor area and in a state facing severe cutbacks to education. On behalf of the students, we really appreciate the help.

Actually, as you said, the codes were on this website. Also some time ago, somebody else had generated an upgrade for JP1 remotes for this projector, evidently using the file here, and I just copied that.

Now let's hope that it works!

Well, I got the Radio Shack 15-135 and I am trying the instructions you all have supplied but I am immediately confused.

The instructions from member 3FG said:

Assign setup code 1410 to the TV button.

I am not clear what this means exactly. Aren't I supposed to assign a 5 digit manufacturer's code to the remote?

I did try to assign 00024 to the power button using the instructions below but I could not get the power button to turn the device on or off.

To program an individual button: (Make sure the remote is in TV mode.)

1) Press P until the remote blinks twice
2) Enter 994 (2 blinks)
3) Tap P
4) Enter 00005 from the below listing
5) Tap Menu
The remote should blink twice to indicate success.

Any further help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

I also tried to scan for a code that would turn the device off but nothing came up. I wonder if the remote is defective. It would not turn another TV off either using the same scanning method method.

If I went over to Radio Shack and bought a new universal remote, is there a certain type I need to get?

Sorry, I didn't give you the correct setup code. For the 15-135, the setup code TV 1410 should be 11410. The leading 1 of 11410 denotes TV, while 0 would mean a cable/sat device, 2 would mean video and 3 is audio. You can see that pattern in the list of setup codes.

First assign setup code 11410, and then assign 00024 to the power button.

I doubt there is anything wrong with the remote. I would not expect scanning for a Power code to work with the Panasonic projector-- if the correct IR signal were built into the 15-135 remote, we wouldn't need to bother to assign 00024 to the power button.

Thank you. I will check this in the morning. Do you mean to write 00024 or 00042 for the power button? You message included both numbers.

Thanks. I'm on my way in now to see if I can make all this work. One more question: What is the reason for pressing 994? I don't see this mentioned in the Radio Shack 15-135 remote's manual, linked below.

Thanks again.
