Been working on this reading lots of forums for about 4 hours. Heres the situation: Pronto TS1000 can get firmware update connected to PC using made connector (from the FAQ page) and a USB to serial adapter (manufacture unknown eBay cheapie), but the Pronto Edit software will not find the remote. It gives the error: "COM 1 opened but no response from RC device". I have tried rebooting, reconnecting, leaving batteries out, loading the firmware again to no help! My setting are on the COM 1 as mentioned many times, my other settings follow the guidelines that are on many forums (2400, 8, 1, None). I have also verified that no other COM is working or present to have any conflicts. Please HELP! I just cant understand how it can sync to get the firmware, but not ever sync in the Editor. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Tonto is a much better program to sync with USB - Serial adapters than PE. Actually, it's much better all the way around. I could never get my 2000 to connect to PE, but connects with Tonto with no problem. Good luck.

Of Tonto or a driver? If driver, try the website for the company that makes the adapter.

Of Tonto...the windows links do not exist on the site. As for the USB to serial adapter I am really a Mac guy and cannot figure the dumb thing out. I have made such great strides on the old windows machine that it I could just "put the icing on the cake" I feel it would be much easier than starting all over on my Mac.

My USB to serial (with XP driver) seemed to work just fine updating the firmware on my Pronto, it just does not connect with the Edit software...

Did you try tapping the remote (wake it up) just prior to attempting communication?

I've heard repeatedly that the Keyspan adaptor always works and that all others have one problem or another. When you find the website for Keyspan, you want the product with one RS232 port on it.
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.

Ernie, he can upgrade the firmware, so his cable is working for that. He needed the right version of Tonto is all. Hopefully I was able to help.
