Do I have to:

1. Choose a layout I look the look of and load it using ProntoEdit (v4).
2. Learn the existing remotes onto the RU970.

Sit back and enjoy?

In a nutshell. But I'm sure you will want to tweak something and will end up changing the layout to match your equipment/equipment types.

You will also want to try and reuse same thread for same issue (don't open a new one) as it makes us double-post responses to ensure you see them.

Also, multiple threads from one use for same topic makes it hell on a reader trying to follow a continuous conversation to see questions/responses and why decisions are made.

Look through the Files section for existing files using your equipment or models with similar model numbers. Almost all of these have artwork with them that's more interesting than the default artwork that came with these remotes. Whoever has uploaded the artwork knows that you (as I) will steal it and use it, so go ahead and do that.

You'll have to learn new commands where you can't find existing ones, and you'll need to use a computer to program macros, for instance

DVD Play
TV On
Receiver On
TV to Video 3
Receiver to DVD
skip to DVD transport panel

which is a sample of what you might want to put behind a single button on the Home screen so one button push does everything.
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.

THANKS FOR THE HELP AND TIPS SO FAR.

So, I've not got much in the way of work done this week, as my quest to crack ProntoEdit has been in full swing. Well, I have no codes learned for any of the devices I have loaded, but I do have some basic looking pages, and the macros set up to do as I'd like.

I have discovered the joy of the jump key, and of colour and of hoisting fragments of other peoples hard work and integrating them into my own CCF. The real test of all of this will be when I let my wife and 7yr old daughter loose on it...

No doubt the CCF I have will change and be revised, trimmed, smoothed and eventually completely replaced, but for now I offer you my thanks for the forum, the FAQ's, and resource of the files section.

Regards,

Jim
