I've got a client with Pronto RU970/90 that wants to add more components to his existing setup. Can I download the configuration and make the necessary adjustments or do I need to start from scratch. I know on the new models I can't do that, but I'm not sure about the older models.

As long as it's a Legacy model remote (uses ccfs) the configuration can be swapped around at will. The only marginal limitation is that the so-called "large screen remotes" (some marantz models) will have gaps at the top and bottom of the screen.

As I remember, the Legacy models are TS1000, TSU2000, TSU6000, RC5000, RC5000i, RC5200, RC9200, RU890, RU940, RU970, USR5, the RAV and the Chad.

You can "upload" the configuration to your computer and then "download" it back to the remote for either the Legacy (Classic Pronto) or the NG (Next Generation) remotes. As you stated, Upload is not possible with the new Pro remotes.
