Is it possible to connect my RU970 to vista. I have installed pronto edit4 which works fine but when i connect the remote i get the message Not connected or not responding. The com port is open and set to 1.According to phillips this remote is not compatible with vista and there are no updates availible.

Prontoedit4 is not the software for that remote. Go to Philips website and download the correct software. Surely your remote has the mini USB socket, there's no need for any USB to serial crap. With the correct software there shouldn't be an issue.

This remote is serial not USB (all the remotes discussed in the "Classic" forum are serial.). Also, ProntoEdit 4 IS the correct software for this model.

Any of the edit programs on Vista work best if you instal them as "Administrator", and run them in XP SP2 mode. There is quite a bit in  the FAQ about which USB to serial adapters seem to work best.
