I recently brought my TSU2000 from the Philippines when I moved here to the US. Over there, the unit was working fine with all my devices. But now, when i programmed in the buttons for my new devices, none of my devices seem to follow the commands from my pronto.

I currently have a Bravia HDTV. iMAC, Sony LCD tv, DVR. The remote seems to be working fine but I suspect it could be the firmware or RC codes as I have not updated the remote in a long time. Could this be the reason?

Also, I am looking for a TSU2000 programming cable in order to update the software. Do you know where I can buy one?

It is not clear how you programmed in the new codes for your new devices if you do not have the cable. if you learned the new codes it may not work correctly because of the original setup and layout.

This is likely what your problem :- if there were macros and jumps etc they will be messed up by trying to learn new codes onto buttons unless the original codes were aliased ( I think that is the term in classic Prontos) and you learnt the codes onto the aliased buttons. I've not used a classic pronto for a while so can't be 100% sure this is the problem.

Also, did you remember that the learning eye is at the other end of the remote to the end that sends out the signals? That sometimes catches people out.

Look at the Pronto FAQ in this forum and it gives you the diagram to make your own cable and info on which other cables are compatible.

If you do make your own, get a slightly longer serial cable with the same connector at each end. I did this when I made my own from a serial cable cut in the middle ( I made a second one from the other half of the serial cable and put it on eBay and got my money back)

Thanks for the reply. When I programmed the remote for the new devices, I just followed the instructions on the manual so I did it the "traditional" way.

Sorry for being a noob but how do you completely erase the old set-up so the remote can learn new devices? What do you mean when you say that the "learning eye catches people out"?

I finally got a new serial cable and I was able to update the firmware but that still has not solved the problem.

What I meant was that lots of people forget that when you are learning from the original remote on to the Pronto you need to learn from the correct end and they get caught out by pointing the original remote at the same end you send the codes out from when using the Pronto every day.

You have to point the original remote at the "bottom" of the Pronto where the Learning IR is in the little black dot. (not the "top" of the Pronto where to have the big black plastic window for sending the IR to your components). You point the original remote at the end that has PHILIPS printed under the two hard buttons.

Hope that makes sense.

I am having a similar issue with my new Magnavox Blue Ray remote. The first pass at learning all the codes resulted in total failure. Nothing worked.

I viewed the IR codes and they were very short...usually a good sign. I relearned all the codes, and this time they were much longer. Now, most of the controls work. I will look again to see how "dirty" they are. Check the FAQ's to learn about IR codes.

I will be relearning more of them as soon as the batteries recharge. If some still don't work, I will try learning the codes in the remote, not through prontoedit.

Oh yes, be sure your Pronto has fresh batteries.

Good Luck!
