Hi there,

I have finally been able to receive from the engineering dept the discrete codes for several commands on my new 42" AOC LCD TV. The problem I'm having is the translation of these codes into the Pront Edit SW. I did try to simply past them into the SET IR code window, but it returns with an error message "Data does not define a valid IR code". I have also learned the Power button using the remote that came with the TV (it only has a single power button).

Here's the learned power button code:

0000 006c 0006 0000 0155 0057 0015 0e5f 0155 0056 0015 0e5f 0155 0056 0015 0057

Here's what the eng. dept have provided me:

Power on
57 D6 00 01 FF FF 2C
Assert
57 D1 00 01 FF FF 27

Power off
57 D6 00 00 FF FF 2B
Assert
57 D1 00 00 FF FF 26

TV
57 E4 E0 22 FF FF 3B
Assert
57 D2 22 00 FF FF 49

AV1
57 E4 E0 25 FF FF 3E
Assert
57 D2 25 00 FF FF 4C

AV2
57 E4 E0 45 FF FF 5E
Assert
57 D2 46 00 FF FF 6D

S-Video1
57 E4 E0 26 FF FF 3F
Assert
57 D2 26 00 FF FF 4D

S-Video2
57 E4 E0 46 FF FF 5F
Assert
57 D2 45 00 FF FF 6C

Comp
57 E4 E0 27 FF FF 40
Assert
57 D2 27 00 FF FF 4E

HDMI 1
57 E4 E0 23 FF FF 3C
Assert
57 D2 23 00 FF FF 4A

HDMI 2
57 E4 E0 24 FF FF 3D
Assert
57 D2 24 00 FF FF 4B

VGA
57 E4 E0 21 FF FF 3A
Assert
57 D2 21 00 FF FF 48

According to them, the Assert code is what the TV responds if the code has been successfuly processed, but I don't think I'll need it.

Any clues would be appreciated.
thanks

You should have tested whether that learned power button works (I'm sure it doesn't).

I can't figure out the translation rules for these codes with a correct learn. I might even need correct learns of a few different signals.

I won't know till I see those correct learns, but I think what the engineering dept gave you might not even be codes for IR signals. Does that TV have an rs232 input connection? I think those may be rs232 codes rather than IR.

Your learned signal is bad because you pressed the original remote button too soon during the learning process. I've given more details on that same issue in many other threads that you might be able to find with a google search of RC (I don't think RC searches are flexible enough).

Edit:

I should have read more carefully the first time. That phrase says the signals they gave you definitely are not IR signals. They are rs232 or something similar and they can't be sent by IR.

Hi John,
Thanks for the prompt response. I did learn some of the codes again and tested it - they all work. Here they are:

Power (each press toggles between Power On and Off)
0000 006c 0022 0002 0155 00ad 0015 0016 0015 0016 0015 0016 0015 0016 0015 0016 0015 0016 0015 0016 0015 0016 0015 0040 0015 0016 0015 0040 0015 0040 0015 0040 0015 0040 0015 0016 0015 0040 0015 0040 0015 0016 0015 0016 0015 0016 0015 0016 0015 0016 0015 0016 0015 0016 0015 0016 0015 0040 0015 0040 0015 0040 0015 0040 0015 0040 0015 0040 0015 0040 0015 0657 0155 0057 0015 0e5f

What I need are the discrete codes for each video input above and the power On and power off, which the eng. dept supposely has given me.

I see that towards the end of all code sequences above there is a 0057 code and all the of codes given to me also begin with a 57 - hopefully this is a good sign..

regards

That is not what they gave you. If you talk to them again, make sure they understand you are talking about infrared remote control signals, not something sent through a wired interface.

Sorry, pure coincidence.

I used IrTool.exe to decode those signals (you can find details in many other threads where IrTool is discussed).

They are
Protocol: NEC1
Device: 0.189
Functions 1, 6, 5 and 69

You could use MakeHex with either IrPanels or Hex2ccf to create a ccf file with 256 buttons covering all 256 IR signals your device can understand. (If you do it right, the above four functions would be buttons 1, 6, 5 and 69 in that CCF, which is worth testing before testing the rest of the 256).

You could test all 256 buttons to see what, if anything, each makes the TV do. If there are any IR signals that the TV understands that aren't included on the original remote, you should be able to discover them this way. (The 256 also would include all the functions that are on the original remote, plus a lot that do nothing).

More details (and some warnings) are in many other threads that discuss use of MakeHex with Hex2ccf or IrPanels.

Thanks John,

I did find lots of threads on this subject, but I'm having a hard time trying to find a valid link to download the MakeHex program. On one of your responses back in 2007, you point to this URL : [Link: john.fine.home.comcast.net], but apparently it's no longer valid.

Sorry, just found the program here at RemoteCentral.
Question: which NEC .irp should I use? There are 4 available.
thanks

The MakeHex from RC is obsolete. Use the one from hifi-remote.

[Link: hifi-remote.com]

Use NEC1.irp

Hi, just created the CCF file with all 256 combinations. The four commands above all work, as well as all other remote controle comands, but none of the remaining codes triggered the discrete video inputs nor the power on and off.

Does that mean I'm out of luck?
