This may have been addressed already somewhere in the past. If so, please do not hesitate to chastise me and point me to an existing thread.

My DirecTV HD DVR has several functions that can be activated by pressing a key on the remote for 3 seconds.

I would like to emulate this on my Pronto 2000 without having to press the corresponding button on the Pronto's screen for the required time. Is there a way to program the Pronto to send an IR code for an extended period of time with no delays? And, if the answer is yes - by adding a learned IR to the action list several times, how do I determine the corrrect number of entries to equal 3 seconds?

If the answer is another method, please explain the method.

Another thing I just thought of - will the Pronto charging base work with standard, rechargeable NiMH AA batteries as well as the Pronto battery pack?

Thanks for any constructive ideas/thoughts.

See the FAQ for extending/lengthening a press

For determining full length of signal, you might want to refer to the ProntoHex IR format document in the Classic Pronto Files Section by Barry Gordon that explains arithmetic that could be used to ascertain true length.

Thanks very much for the prompt response, Lyndel. I will do as you suggest.

Any thoughts on the battery charging?

No, it will only recharge the Philips pack.

Thanks again, Lyndel.

While waiting for your reply I stuck 4 NiMHs in the Pronto and put it on the charging base. The red light did not illuminate. Told me all I needed to know. Duh!

If I'd tried that first I wouldn't have had to ask a dumb question.

I'm just curious -- what commands are those? I've got a DirecTV unit, have programmed remotes to control many of them, and have never run across a command that was different when held down. It just might be that I never tried holding down a button, and I can't tell you how long it's been since I read a DirecTV Receiver manual.

Thanks.
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.

Usually it's the device that senses a held key and does something different, not the remote that sends a new command (although something at the back of my brain is registering that some company somewhere did actually do that, but it was an oddity).
