I've just been trying to add a new remote to my RC9200 config, but Touch Screen Edit 2.0.4 crashes on Vista.
Is this known behaviour, and are there any fixes?

Run it in compability to windows 95. Right click in the PE icon to set.

I run it as "administrator" on my Vista and it seems to run fine without needing to set compatibility mode.

OK, My Touch Screen Setup program is crashing when I I click the "Set IR" button from buttom property. I have Vista (32bit) and I've tried setting compability to Win95 and still not working. I've also tried "As Administrator" and no luck. I've uninstalled the program each time before making any changes and restart the PC before re-installing. Don't know what else to try. Help.

You should restart your machine AFTER installing, but before using the program. Still, I'm not sure that will help you. Try a different ccf (download one from the files area) to see if this behavior is peculiar to your ccf. Additionally, I seem to remember that problems can occur if the IR code (action on your button) doesn't have a name. You might try naming the code if it doesn't have one already.

I believe that problem occurs in the simulator and not in the editor.

I'm defenitely NOT using the simulator ... I'm using the editor which opens once I open up the program. I've tried shutting down after every installation and shutting down down everytime I uninstall. Still not able to get the "Set IR" button to work. WHY??? Is anyone using a 32bit Vista OS with this program? And if so, what compatibility settings are set on your exe file?

Bdkjose,

I have exactly the same problem. Running TSE in Vista without any compatibility mode set (but run as Administrator) the software works normally except the learn IR functions. Therefore I have to learn the IR using the device not the software.

This works for normal IR but I'm unable to code decrete codes. If the software is run under any compatibility mode the software doesn't work correctly and generally crashes when any file open or save is performed. Does anyone have any software that runs under Vista that will enable correct coding of the RC9200 remotes?

I've tried the latest version of Tonto but the install fails with a Java error (I'm running the latest version of Sun Java).

Thanks
Mark

Edit: Right I've fixed the problem with Tonto (downloaded the .zip version of the software without the Java Bundled). It looks much better than the TSE so I'm going to see if the IR parts work. Watch this space!

Thanks
Mark

Mark,

I believe your problem is different. Bdkjose was talking about using the "set IR" button, not learning IR in TSE from another remote.

Learning should be accomplished on the remote itself, not through the software while attached to the computer. Learning on the computer has been shown to introduce timing errors and lead to corrupt codes. There are many old threads that discuss this. The "best" approach is to learn on the remote and then upload to the computer.

On a more positive note - Tonto is a much superior program IMHO.

Your right Bomberjim ... the program crashes when I hit the "Set IR" button. Again, is anyone on here using the TSE program running on Vista? If so, how did you set the compability in order for it to work correctly? All my other programs such as Wiz.it and Wiz.it9 are working ok.

ok guys ... haven't opened this touch screen edit in a while and now need to use it again. Still not able to use the Set IR Button. I've tried running as admin, and changed the compatibility to run as Windows of all kind. There has to be a way to resolve this problem. Why isn't there any support? Please help.

Sorry to be such a snit and so cynical but, IMO, a reality check is in great need here.

Why no support?

Maybe because the Classic Pronto Platform has been discontinued for almost 5 years now and you are trying to run software that was written for 95/98/98SE/XP - pre SP2?

Are you going to ask Toshiba to provide you firmware updates on that HDDVD player that you bought 3 years ago now that HDDVD is no more?

Your request is kind of like calling up CreativeLabs and asking for Windows 98 drivers for their latest sound cards that are XP/Vista compatible.

Or calling a gaming company that used the older DOS multitasking emulator (Warcraft II - Tides of Darkness) and asking them to provide you updates for their games that work with Vista. They will likely laugh in your face and offer to sell you their latest product but you will NEVER get a version of the old game that works with the Vista OS.

Unless you find a magic bullet on your own and can make TSS work with Vista, you will be out of luck. You will NEVER get an updated version of ProntoEdit or TouchScreenSetup that claims Vista support.

You could always try using Tonto, that is, if the COM port drivers for Vista still work and are backward-compatible with those in XP (Stewart does not have to change his code).

If not, you need to either find an older PC that has XP or find a newer remote.

Best of luck getting this worked out.
