I made brief mention of this earlier.. but it has continued now for the past several days.

Every now and again, with no particular circumstances that I can pin-point, the screen on the Pronto 'freaks-out' (for lack of better description), and the unit shuts down.

After a moment.. when I touch the screen to activate it again, I get the Pronto logo screen and 2 beeps.. just like when you start it up for the first time. Seems like a crash to me..

The good news is that it doesn't seem to lose any memory in the process.. but this is a bit annoying and could come at a bad time.. for example if a mis-push to my TV results in a snow-channel.. I could be a full minute before I can do anything to stop it. (short of jumping off the couch)

Has anyone else seen this? Could this be just the unit I have? Any suggestions?

At first I thought it was result of so much programming.. but for the last several days this has gone on, and I have not gone into any edit modes.. it happens sometimes when chaning tv channels, or switching to DVD or CD.

Thanks in advance.

Pierre.

Pierre,

Sounds like a power problem. If you're using the dock battery pack, I would try removing/reseating as we had one that acted very similarly. If not the dock pack, then remove/reseat the std batteries. Also, try a different set of batteries.
It's acting like a "power boot" perhaps because it may be?

Pierre,

I had exactly the same problem once. It was a fairly new set of batteries, so I don't think I can relate to batteries.

Only happened to me once, and like you can not attribute it to anything. I was just in user mode, not programming the unit as I recall...

I'm suggesting that it's a matter of battery connection, not battery strengths.
On ocassion, all batteries mfrs have bad "internal" welding from the cell to the outer contactor which will be affected by pressure on the contactor, as when they're installed into a device with pressure spring clips as in Pronto.
Also, could be intermittent of battery contactor to spring clip. Could be bad solder joint at spring clip.
If it persists, I would suggest getting a replacement. Of course one hopes that software is released prior to so you can save your work to load into the replacement.

Pierre: I had a simular problem happen once when I put it down on the charging dock. I figure it received a jolt of power it couldn't handle, or I put it down on an angle and crossed contacts.

I suggest you try Jack's idea of changing batteries, and if it persists to get a replacement unit. That's not normal behaviour!

Thanks for the thoughts guys. No dock, but I will take a closer look at the bat. area and drop a fresh set of ProCells in there and see how it behaves.

Thanks again.

Pierre.

If you go back on this forum to 1/5 you'll see this had occurred to me. Upon one of the responses I called level 2 help(800-467-9494),they said it's probably the circuitry. I was told to return it to the dealer for a replacement. I hope to get my replacement within the next couple of weeks. The demand far exceeds the supply, and unless you bought from Metronet(best stocked in the country) your dealer will have to wait for his next shipment. I thought that my warranty was with Philips, not the dealer. They should have replaced my remote. It's been six days that I am waiting for a supervisor to return my call. He took my call Monday, put me on hold and disconnected me. Since then he's been in meetings, lunch, stepped away from his desk, or on the phone(but not back to me). They have a lot nerve calling this customer service!! Anyway best of luck in sorting out your problem.

Thanks again for the info..

I did actually buy mine from Jack at Metronet though we never spoke directly. I dread the thought of sending it back and waiting again for it.. so I am going to keep an eye on it for the next week and see what happens.. also I am holding out for that cable to arrive and the software so I can dump all of the programming I have already done.

Pierre.
