I have a RC5200 and a DISH Network 510 receiver. The 510 does not always respond to my remote if I’m about 15 feet away from the receiver. The original Dish remote that came with the receiver operates flawlessly at this distance. If I’m within 10-12 feet from the equipment the RC5200 works fine. Unfortunately, my couch is about 15’ from the equipment.

To improve response reliability when using the 5200 at 15 feet, I programmed the buttons on my remote to issue 2 occurrences of the same Dish command. This fixed the problem. However when I’m closer than 15 feet from the 510, the 510 responds to each of these commands individually. Scrolling through the program guide one channel at a time is impossible. I also tried adding a 0.1 delay instead of doubling the commands and that did not improve the reliability.

I’ve read much about extending the IR codes and wonder if this is a possible remedy to my problem. If so, I presume that extending the command within a single block of code will prevent my 510 from responding multiple times as it did when I coded 2 individual and identical commands for one button. I’m not sure how to read the codes to determine which part of it to repeat. If this works, I’ll convert all the Dish 510 commands to ensure reliability.
