I have been using Harmony Remotes. I like them, but thought I would try to get some use from this TS-1000. So I downloaded the latest version of PE, made a connection to the Remote and uploaded the existing file (the one that's IN the Pronto). But the file won't save to the hard drive. I get an error saying it is 1110% of the file size to fit in unknown remote. I am really not sure which computer the original file is on, so I probably won't be able to utilize that. Any ideas on why this is happening?

The maximum size CCF you can put into a 1000 is 380kb.

Well, how did I get it OUT of the remote if it won't fit INTO the remote?

Which version of ProntoEdit are you using? You should have 4.05.

The firmware in the 1000 should also be the version that matches the release of ProntoEdit - that is, you should have the latest firmware.

I'm also a bit confused. You successfully uploaded the configuration from your 1000 into ProntoEdit. Then, when you tried to save the configuration to disk, you got the message. Is that correct? If so, are you sure you have a 1000, not a 2000?

I'm not sure if you can do this. Try doing a Save As, and change the type from 1000 to 2000 or even 6000 and see if you can save it.

No, the only file type I can "save as" is a ts1000(no db) configuration file.

But yes, the file uploads from the remote into PE. I can edit, but not save. I get a file too big error. I did update the firmware when I d/l'd the new version of PE. It asked if I wanted to save the current configuration. I said yes and it still seems to be there.

I also still don't understand why PE has basically no I/R codes to select from in the I/R edit windows. The only brand there is Philips. I think Philips is there because I d/l'd the discrete codes from the Philips website.

Do a search on "Developer Mode". Maybe the reason you can't see the IR data is because Developer Mode is not enabled.

Well, I activated Developer Mode, but it didn't make any difference. There are no brands listed. All the I/R drop down boxes say "Non applicable". Selecting a device makes no difference.

I can't export as any file type either. Most say it's too large, but the ru970 crashes PE.

I ran Tonto and was able to upload the contents of the remote. When I saved the file it DOES save to the harddrive, but IS over a 1mb. Why/how the heck is it so big?

Did you purchase a refurbished remote? Sometimes you get TSU2000 or RU940 guts in a TS-1000 case. Exactly what firmware versions does it have, how much free memory is reported on the remote, and does your Tools menu have a BRAND option?

Also, the TS-1000, RU890, RU940 and all Marantz versions of the original Pronto have NO built-in code database.

No...this is an old original remote w/charger option. Probably bought it ~mid 2000.

Not sure about free memory. But the remote always worked OK on the last system it was programmed for. The tools menu DOES NOT have a brand option.

Well, running out of things to suggest... could you email me the file it saved from Tonto? Address is in my profile or on the site's Contact page.
