I have one working tsu6000 already( in process of programming) decided to buy a non working one and start tinkering(new to electronics tinkering but figure I can learn). Just received it put a battery in it and screen was blank but could hear the buttons beep when touchscreen was pushed. Reflashed the firmware after that. Then screen came on for a while but looked more gray than color. Screen would work sparaticly. Then after about ten minutes charging end of remote was very hot. I have removed the battery and have not opened it yet and probably won't have time in the next few days but thought I would pick the brains of all you experts to see if you have any thoughts.

Replace the screen and possibly replace the battery. The charging circuit is letting the battery overcharge.

If you do a forum search, you'll find several instances of a 6000 or Marantz 9200 getting hot to the touch. I've seen one that got hot enough to warp the plastic battery cover, and Daniel himself reported it happening to him as well. I've never read of a case where this overheating caused damage, and in all cases the remote operated normally after the incident. I guess what I'm saying is that this has been known to happen VERY occasionally, and if it isn't a constant thing, probably isn't the source of your other problems.

I have a TSU2000 that is burnt, welded itself to a charger and started smoking a bit. the charger is shot now and remote has contacts that are melted out of the case a bit.
Seen other 2000's do this as well...6000's havent heard of to many getting that bad

There's no worse feeling than that millisecond you're sure you are going to die after leaning your chair back a little too far. |

Yeah, that's why they changed the design. With the 2000 it was possible to cross the contacts when placing it on the charger, making it quite dangerous.
On the 6000, it's interesting (dumb?) that the charger is smart enough to detect a high temperature (the lights start flashing) but NOT smart enough to quit chargeing if this condition occurs.

Unit has not even been on a charger since I got it. Just took the battery out of the other one I had. The other unit did not heat up. I have put the battery back in and it just seems to be warm this time

Interestingly, the only overheat I ever had was on the TSU6000... and it only happened once. Assuming that most people who have this happen to them eventual talk about it here (we all know how problems are reported more than successes), I'd say it's "frequent enough to be known" but far from "common".
