The emulator in my Marantz Touch Screen Setup has been crashing for a while. It did this a year or so ago and a reinstallation fixed it. I finally got around to that tonight --

I reinstalled
rebooted the computer
tried it again

and the emulator crashes after one or two commands.

Should I have uninstalled the program before reinstalling? Any other hints?

Thanks, everybody.
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.

Yes, uninstall, reinstall, then reboot before using. If you're using XP, make sure you're logged in as an administrator.

This happens to be 98.

I did exactly that, the emulator actually failed on the first button push, while it had previously failed on the first button push...that happened to be a macro. That is why I started the thread.

Should I have uninstalled instead of installing over the program?

If I'm reading you right, then yes uninstall first, then reinstall and reboot.

If the CCF emulation fails on multiple machines...

Decompile your CCF using CCFTools and look for an IR Code that has no label. i.e. an empty string. This was a known problem and I'm not sure if it still exists. That's why, upon a learn, the editor sets the value to "Learned".

Do you mean multiple remotes or multiple computers? It must be remotes, because I am only talking about one computer....

It fails on all ccfs that I open and try to emulate. Without even a remote. I'm one of these guys who never learns into the software, and I have not seen much advantage to using a mouse on an emulator to actually emit IR, so when I use the emulator, it is just to see what the panel changes look like. That is how I have always used it in all versions of the software. I had this problem one time before with Touch Screen Setup, and reinstallation fixed it.

Ernie,

By machines Lyndel meant computers. If the emulator fails on multiple computers, it's probably the ccf that has a problem. Does this problem happen with all your ccfs, or just one in particular? Certain buttons, or any buttons? As a test, you could download Daniel's ccf and see if the problem goes away. If it does, the problem is probably buried in your ccf. By the way, did you UNINSTALL TSS before you REINSTALLED it?

The "no label" or no name for an IR code problem first surfaced when the TSU-2000 was released. I don't believe this was ever a problem with the Marantz remotes or Marantz software and was confined to Pronto Edit only. I could be wrong about this, in which case I'm sure someone will correct me.

EDIT: Oops, I see it's all ccfs. Again, I'd try uninstall the software first.
