I am planning on a new 'puter which more than likely will have no serial port. What would be my best option with my Pronto 2K, install a PCI serial card or use a USB to serial adapter? Thanx

Personally, I would add a serial PCI card, they are cheap & reliable. Using a USB -> serial convertor in my opinion is introducing unnecessary complexity.

I specially ordered my computer with a serial port; best decision I took; absolutely no adapter problems

Most motherboards do still come with a serial port built-in; I know of several current generation ones that still have two. But most brand-name prebuilt PCs and HTPC-targeted machines will likely lack one.
