From what I've read, this remote is identical to a Marantz RC5200. It's built in association with Denon, and is designated as a "professional" model. It comes with a training CD giving tutorials on multimedia uses etc.

Since the 5200 has been replaced by the 5400, this remote is no longer "state of the art". Biggest difference is that it's 4 color gray scale as opposed to 16 color gray scale in a 5400. Comparing it to the Pronto line, it ranks above a 2000 (due to the cursor pad and additional hard buttons) but below a 3000 (due to the 4 color grayscale).

You should also be aware of Marantz's policy of voided warrantee unless you purchase thru an authorized dealer, which basically means paying MSRP. Given what I've read, I'd look for a deal on a Pronto TSU 3000 instead, but YMMV.

You're welcome. Since you say you're new at this, understand that these remotes are wonderful devices. However, you must be willing to invest ALOT of time in both learning the software and then putting together the ccf (what you see on the remote). 100+ hours is not an unusual amount of time to spend "playing" with it and perfecting the program. If you enjoy this kind of "geeky" exercise (I do) it's alot of fun. Some people become frustrated with the learning curve and are quickly disappointed however.

do you recommend any remotes with a quicker learning curve. i don't have a complex system, but i like the idea of a personnalized remote.

Not really, the use of graphics, and the computer interface is what makes touchscreens "personallized". That means learning how to use the software, becoming something of a programmer, and maybe a bit of a graphics artist as well. This doesn't mean that you can't get the remote up and running reasonably quickly, just that it takes alot of time and programming experience to perfect the graphics and navigation (device switching) to your tastes.

For a more standard type remote, very powerful, but not able to be personalized, I'd recommend an MX-500 from universal remote control. No computer interface and doesn't do RF. It's my wife's "upstairs" remote and is very capable, in fact she resists all my attempts to upgrade it. It can be had at places like bluedo.com for around $80 to $90.

The Harmony remotes are also interesting and well rated, but I have no experience with them.

i think i'm going to take my chances with the pmd750. i can always upgrade it later if i need to. i'm not much of a programmer but i do consider myself fairly computer literate. wish me luck. i'm sure i'll be back on this message board soon.

When you start to do your own creation, there are some design choices you need to make upfront before you dive in. Things such as how you want to navigate, use of "IR code pages" etc. You can post back, or even PM me (address is in profile), people around here are always willing to help.

Hmm, didn't come with a disk? You can download TouchScreenSetup 2.0.4 here: [Link: remotecentral.com]. This works for all Marantz legacy models, and I would bet for this as well. Set the software for the 5200 model prior to downloading anything, or connect the remote, upload and let it try to auto detect. You might also check the firmware that's on the remote (icon on the top center of screen) for a Marantz RC5200 the latest is: App v1.4.1 / Sys v1.3.2.

Just another FYI. There is no manual per se for TSS. You can get the info you need by reading the Pronto Edit V4 manual here: [Link: remotecentral.com], and supplimenting with Marantz specific info in the RC 5000 setup manual here: [Link: remotecentral.com].

Reboot after installing software, prior to running it. Also, read the FAQ (link on this page) after becoming familiar with the software.
