Hey all,
I just got a new LG plasma; it has two hdmi inputs and I've been trying to get the discrete codes for them. In the back of the manual, it has the hex code for each of the discrete codes.

Using a previously posted .ccf, I input the pronto hex for the discrete code for dvi into IR tool. It decoded the pronto hex, and gave me the command "196". This translates into hex code C6. Well, I want to create a discrete code using what the LG manual says HDMI 2's code is, CC. This is 204, so I plug it into IR tool, encode the hex, put this back into the pronto, and the code does not work.

What am I doing wrong? I can manually learn all of the buttons on the supplied remote, but how do I get the the hex codes in the back of the manual to work in the pronto?

Use Makehex to make the commands. It will generate them into a .hex file and you can simply cut annd paste the ones you need.

Using the "-b" option allows makehex to output command/function numbers as hex in addition to decimal (check the readme file).

196 is 0xC4 and not 0xC6. Use windows caluclator in scientific mode to convert.

I meant 198 for C6.

Anyway, which IRP do I use for LG? And, sorry for being a noob, but what's next?

Thanks for the quick replies!

LG seems to use a variety of different IR protocols (matching the IR signals of various NEC, Philips, and Samsung products).

The JP1 group's version or IrTool.exe (not the one at RemoteCentral) combined with DecodeIr.dll will give you the protocol name and device number(s) from Pronto Hex in the same terminology used by MakeHex.

Lacking that, my best guess based on what you posted is that your LG uses the NEC1 protocol, device 4. So use the NEC1.IRP file and set the device number (inside the .irp file) to 4.

Johnsfine,
You were exactly right, NEC1, device 4. Worked on the first try. Now I've gotta build a panel with transport controls.

Thanks guys for your help.

John, does this version of IRTool work properly?

[Link: remotecentral.com]

The one I have came from the JP1 group and unfortunately I'm not at a Windows machine to verify the one above is the same or works fully with DecodeIR (as claimed in the description).

If it works it just saves people from having to go scour the JP1 Yahoo group for it.

I didn't know that copy was there.

I just tested with the latest DecodeIr to make sure no incompatibilities had crept in since that Irtool version was done. It worked for me.
