Hi. Im new to this having recently aquired a second hand RC5000.
All is going well apart from 1 niggling item.

Try as i might i cannot devise a macro that will involve switching on my Panasonic CRT TV.

The button that has been programmed on a panel in devices has learned the code just fine and works no problems.

When this is aliased into a macro the long button press that is required is truncated to a shorter one that just doesnt cut the mustard.

I know this has been covered in earlier threads but a search has prooved fruitless for my needs.

So far i have tried.

From FAQ's: Learning the preamble and then the repeated section on seperate buttons and then combining them in a macro. I cannot get a clean start to the repeated section.

Editing the IR Code. It is not possible to add or replace any Hex codes in the version of Set-Up (RC5000 Set-Up Ver 2.3.1) so any solution involving this isnt working.
I get the impression that there are additional apps that will permit this but have no idea where to look.

Upgrading. Have put in the required paperwork to the department of household aquisitions and as yet am waiting for the female devision to stop laughing.

So. Any suggestions.

For Panasonic, there is no difference between the initial signal and the repeating part, and (as you discovered) the signal is long enough that attempts to learn the repeat part (skipping the initial part) tend to learn misaligned garbage.

The FAQ method is inappropriate in the majority of cases, and certainly in this one.

The good news is thet, if you have a clean learn of the whole signal, you have a clean learn of the repeat part (they're the same thing).

If your Pronto can transmit a sequence without adding too much delay between steps, you can generate the desired long KeyPress by just aliasing the original signal multiple times in sequence.

So far as I know, the NG Prontos can't generate sequences with small enough delays between steps and the older Prontos can. I have no idea whether the RC5000 can nor whether there is anything you need to do to tell it to avoid extra delay between steps in a sequence.

Are you sure there isn't some "advanced" mode that can be turned on in some other menu to enable editing Hex codes? Some versions of ProntoEdit have that.

Or is there some version of Tonto or ProntoEdit that can edit your config file? Maybe you need a thread titled specifically for how to edit the learned Hex for an RC5000. I expect someone knows that answer. I don't.

You may not need to edit it. Can you copy the signal out and paste the Pronto Hex to this thread? I just want to see if it is clean enough that it could work in a sequence.

Each one obviously starting back at the begining. Just extending this by a fraction would probably be fine... But its not havin it.

I suppose if i could edit this code to repeat the "0010 0010 0010 0030 0010 0010 0010 0010" parts then it may work.

Will try another thread to see if anyone knows why I cant edit.

I really don't think it is sending bursts that long. Maybe it is inserting enough delay to get the rate down to one or two bursts per second. I know it inserts some delay even if you ask for none, but I'm surprised it inserts too much. I don't know if you have any control over that.

Just extending
this by a fraction would probably be fine.

I think it needs to be extended more than that.

I'm pretty sure that wouldn't help. There is a maximum length for Pronto Hex and I think the duration you want is more than that maximum.

But I'm not sure what the repeat rules are in an RC5000. What I'm about to suggest has definitely failed in NG Prontos, but might work in the RC5000.

When the code was used in a sequence, the RC5000 automatically repeats it some number of times. I expect that when you extend the code as above, the RC5000 just repeats it less for roughly the same total time, so the above won't work. But I'm not sure, so maybe it will work.
