Hi,
Thinking about replacing my RC5000 (which has a few problems from old-age) with a secondhand RC5200, which will take my config file without lots of changes. Knowing from experience that the battery packs in these things are expensive, and don't last forever, I have a concern in this area, because a secondhand remote might have a dying battery pack.

In my existing RC5000, I have replaced the original battery pack with 4 AA batteries, and I don't place it on charge anymore. Is there any such facility in the RC5200?

No, rechargeables only, which also means you need the dock. Both the battery and the dock are different than the 5000. On the bright side, there are 3rd party sources for batteries that are better and cheaper than Philips. See here: [Link: prontowizard.com].

And one of my clients just purchased two batteries from one of those companies before asking me what the problem was...turned out he had turned the contrast all the way down, so he actually has no problem, and two extra batteries. Email me if you want me to put him in contact with you.
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.
