At the moment, all I have is the description from a client who is 120 miles away...anybody have a clue about this?

After charging overnight, hhis Maratnz RC5200 display fades to gray after about two minutes. In case someone out there can glean some meaning from the serial number, it is 3104 200 51271.

I believe his description of charging overnight does not mean that it only happens after charging, but that he is ensuring me that the battery has not been away from the charger for a long period of time.

Anybody?

Thanks!
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.

Sounds like it overheated during charging and possibly dimmed the screen.

Did you have him check the contrast wheel on the side before making a trip out there?

Didn't make the trip. Told him about the contrast wheel.

Contrast wheel. Yup.

Wrote me an email telling me he felt dumb, I told him not to: I had obviously not had him spin it before.

Ernie, That what I'm here for. Your own technical diagnoser.

Maybe you can split the cost of the trip with me. LMAO

That is alright Ernie, we'll forgive you for posting this one question before asking the client about the contrast wheel.

But I do have something to add to it though. I notice that with my tsu2000 there are times where the batteries gets a little warm after a charge. (which I charge every 4 to 6 weeks for 30 minutes or so. I haven't seen a "low bat" in a long time) Therefor effect the contrast of the display. But not only do the heat from the batteries effect the display, also the heat from your hands.

Those monochrome screens are VERY sensitive to temperature. As are passive matrix color screens. Pick up a cold remote and it'll look fine. Hold it for 10 minutes and the screen will appear a whole lot darker.

I check my Pronto regularly to see if it is low on charge - especially if I am planning a download. If it's showing low, I charge it for about 30 minutes or so after which the charger unit starts flashing.

I am not sure if the flashing means it is charged, but it always seems to be fully charged at that point. I certainly wouldn't have thought leaving it on the charger for any length of time would do it any good.

A flashing charger doesn't mean it's fully charged. It's supposed to indicate a problem, such as over heating. The battery meter on the remote will indicate "full" after a very few moments on the charger, this doesn't indicate that it's fully charged. You can tell the charging process is complete when the lights on the charger go out, not flashing.

I've had it now for eight years and it has always flashed after a short while of charging, so I don't think I'll worry too much!

I await your check for $0.00 for your half of the trip I did not take. Or you could send no cash at all.

But note elswhere that he located new batteries at a discount price and bought two before talking to me about his problem. Those are presently for sale, but for more than $0.00.
