Is it an IR device? You can't do RF with a Pronto.

Are you learning from the correct end of your Pronto?

i was messing about with my remote today and discovered that the volume down button on my TV remote (sony kv32dx40) works on the dimmer but it turns the tv down at the same time. also from a distance the volume on the tv goes down as it should and the lights dim but when the TV volume is at its lowest the lights stp dimming

i'm now really confused

Hi mogwai69,

I have just installed several of these light switches as sold through B&Q although I bought mine from [Link: tlc-direct.co.uk]
They have a better Varilight range - cheaper too! The goods are delivered within two or three days of order.

Back to your problem, it would seem that the Varilight is a bit sensitive to certain codes. I got round this by using Prontoedit to create a page of about six buttons with different codes in and downloading them into the Pronto. Best to not use codes that are in operation elsewhere on your system or you will find that same problem you have already experienced with your TV volume.

By trying each code with the Varilight I found some that worked fine. One didn't work at all and a couple of others needed two presses of the button to make the Varilight respond, which was no good at all.

Here are two of the codes that work for me:

5000 0072 0000 0001 0000 0032

0000 006b 0000 000f 0006 00ec 0006 0036 0006 0036 0006 0036 0006 0076 0006 0036 0006 0076 0006 0036 0006 0036 0006 0036 0006 0076 0006 0036 0006 0036 0006 00eb 0006 0856

Just copy and paste one of them into a button on your Pronto using Prontoedit.

If you only need one, go for the shorter of the two codes.

Check out TLC if you need a remote controlled DOUBLE dimmer switch because B&Q don't seem to do them. When I asked one of the assistants at B&Q I got the usual "Oh, I don't think anyone makes those!"

We use the double switch in our lounge dining room and it works brilliantly. You don't even have to point the Pronto at the switch for it to control the chosen set of lights.

Hope this works for you

Caz

I've just noticed your reply to this on another thread, so here's the answer I posted there:

Here's how to successfully paste a code.
Copy the first code from my previous post ie
5000 0072 0000 0001 0000 0032
Using ProntoEdit, go to the button on your Pronto you plan to use for the dimmer. Double click on the button.
This will open the Button Properties window for that button. Across the top there are four tabs - Action, Properties, Icons and Colors,
Click the Properties tab. If the button already has a code in it you will see in the square window an item with a square bracketed [C]. (Go to ** below if there is nothing in that window) Now double click on that [C] item. It will open up a panel headed Add IR.
*At the bottom there are OK and Cancel buttons, above these are four buttons. If the one on the left says Hide IR>> below this should be the IR code: window... however, if the left button says View IR>> click it to open the IR code: window. If you're with me so far we're almost there.
This is the window into which you paste the IR code you want to use to activate the function (in this case, the dimmer switch). You can label it if you wish by clicking on the Label panel. Now click the OK button and you're done.

Once you have downloaded this into your Pronto, then follow the Varilight instructions on how to teach this code to your light switch. Once your switch has correctly learnt the code you should now be able to sit back and dim your lights.

Any problems, let me know and I'll try to help.
Caz

** If there is no code in the button already you need to create one. On the left of the Button Properies panel there are five buttons Alias, Delay, Set IR, Beep and Timer. Click the Set IR button. This will bring up the Add IR panel (now go to the * paragraph above)

ok i've been doing this for weeks now and still cant get it working correctly. i still have to press the button twice for it to do anything

i've tried loads of codes and just cant get them to work. one way that seems to work (sort of) is the volume control on a sony tv remote. unfortunatly i use a sony tv and it interferes with the volume as would be expected.

any kind people out the who have any codes worth trying? it just a single gang remote dimmer from B&Q (uk)

i really hope someone can help its the only thing that doesn't work properly in my system
