I have copied the code as below, but i cannot get my TV(kv32fq86 UK model) to switch off using this code, i can only see the one code in the discrete section. is there anything else i can try? the Ir indicator blinks but thats it!! the discrete on seems to be OK?
cheers,
Rich

The code you posted here is Device Code 1, Function Code 0x2F or 47 decimal which IS the code for Power Off. If your unit does not accept it, there is a workaround. Use the discrete On code for Power on and use Power Toggle for Off.

Here's a link to see all potential function codes for Sony TVs. Just because a code is listed does not mean it will work.

[Link: hifi-remote.com]

For more information about what the hex data you posted means, see the Pronto IR Hex format document by Barry Gordon in the user documentation section of the Pronto Files forum.

thanks for the links Lyndel,
i have spent all evening trying to solve this problem, the document by Barry Gordon went a bit over my head!!! i have been looking through the function codes at hifiremote.com but nothing else seems to sort this out.
could using the workaround idea do any harm? switching on then off straight away, could that do any damage?
does anyone know how helpful the manufacturers are at helping with this problem? how does everyone find these codes anyway? i have randomly tried changing some codes but i don't know what on earth I'm doing!!
any more tips would be much appreciated
thanks again,Rich

You should not have any problems on the TV by using Discrete On for Power on and Power Toggle for Off. You may have an issue such that you press Power Off on your Pronto and your TV is currently Off, will turn on the TV. You could simply do the following instead.

For Power off, do a discrete Power On followed by a Power Toggle. If the TV is currently on, it will ignore the Power On and then Power Off. If not on, it will come on and then immediately turn off. Such commands "may" decrease the life of the power supply in the TV. However, a good design for Pronto configuration can minimize unnecessary power cycles on your TV.

I believe the code above is System Off. It is the code listed on the website where I get sony codes 0x2F (decimal 47).

No, that's the standard Sony TV discrete off. Device 1 is televisions.

System off, which works with some equipment, is device 4, command 55.

thanks daniel, i cannot find command 55 listed anywhere? I'm not sure if i've done this right but i found the pronto ir tool on your site and tried to convert the device 4, command 55 into a hex code ( see below) is this the correct code? ( sorry I'm a bit thick!!) anyway, hope i've got this wrong because it does nothing! not even a blink from the red light on the front of the set! i tried emailing sony here in the uk but they just said they cannot help :(

Rich, that is a perfectly good hex string for device 4, command 55 (decimal).

Daniel, can you share more information about that System off command? Where did you find it? Any devices on which you know for sure it works? And are we correct in assuming you meant 55 decimal, not 55 hex?

I looked in a bunch of sources for Sony IR signals and I see no other mention of this command.

Rich,

Just for grins, try function code 85 (55 hex is 85 decimal).

I found the Sony System Off some eight years ago, and have used it in several ccfs since then. Here is the hex string from that command. I have no idea why it is so long (the IR code document is also way over my head), but I know that this one works:

0000 0066 00a5 0000 0060 0017 0030 0017 0030 0017 002f 0018 0018 0017 0030 0017 0030 0017 0018 0017 0018 0018 0018 0017 0030 0017 0018 0017 0018 0018 0018 0017 0018 0017 0018 036a 0060 0017 0030 0017 002f 0018 002f 0018 0018 0017 0030 0017 002f 0018 0018 0017 0018 0018 0018 0017 002f 0018 0018 0017 0018 0018 0018 0017 0018 0017 0018 036a 005f 0018 002f 0018 002f 0018 002f 0018 0017 0018 002f 0018 002f 0018 0018 0017 0018 0017 0018 0018 002f 0018 0017 0018 0018 0017 0018 0018 0018 0017 0018 166a 005f 0018 002f 0018 002f 0018 002f 0018 002f 0018 0017 0018 002f 0018 0018 0017 0018 0017 0030 0017 0018 0018 0018 0017 0018 03f9 005f 0018 002f 0018 002f 0018 002f 0018 002f 0018 0017 0018 002f 0018 0018 0017 0018 0017 0030 0017 0018 0018 0018 0017 0018 03f8 0060 0018 002f 0018 002f 0017 0030 0017 0030 0017 0018 0018 002f 0017 0018 0018 0018 0017 0030 0017 0018 0017 0018 0018 0018 16f8 005f 0018 002f 0018 002f 0018 002f 0018 002f 0018 0017 0018 002f 0018 0018 0017 002f 0018 002f 0018 002f 0018 0018 0017 0018 03c8 005f 0018 002f 0018 002f 0018 002f 0018 002f 0018 0017 0018 002f 0018 0018 0017 002f 0018 002f 0018 002f 0018 0018 0017 0018 03c7 0060 0018 002f 0018 002f 0017 0030 0017 0030 0017 0018 0018 002f 0017 0018 0018 002f 0018 002f 0018 002f 0017 0018 0018 0018 16cd 005f 0018 002f 0018 002f 0018 002f 0018 002f 0018 0017 0018 002f 0018 0018 0017 002f 0018 002f 0018 0018 0017 0030 0017 0018 03c8 005f 0018 002f 0018 002f 0018 002f 0018 002f 0018 0017 0018 002f 0018 0018 0017 002f 0018 002f 0018 0018 0017 0030 0017 0018 03c7 0060 0018 002f 0018 002f 0017 0030 0017 0030 0017 0018 0018 002f 0017 0018 0018 002f 0018 002f 0018 0017 0018 002f 0018 0018 0017

Ernie, read the Pronto IR Format documentation in the Files section by Barry Gordon. He does a great job of explaining the Sony format. Your code is so long as it is an unclean learn.

Try this and see if it works for you as well. Please report back the results.

There's a clean version of "System Off" in the file area, under Sony discrete codes, "Whole System".

It's one of the signals sent on Sony's standard "System Off" power buttons you'll find on some OEM remotes and the RM-AV series - basically those are the main "System Off" code followed by a large number of device discrete offs. I suspect that that dirty code you have above has been captured from one of those buttons, and contains the "System Off" command at the front followed by a few discrete offs, such as TV and VCR (EDIT: it does have "System Off").

The code works with many but not all Sony devices. It came in handy on my DVP-S500D, which did NOT respond correctly to discrete off or on (it responded, just didn't work right) but it DID accept System Off without issue.

I just did a walkabout the house...

Worked on:
DVP-NS999ES (ID 2)
DVP-NC650V
DVP-NS715P
DVP-S500D
SLV-M91HF (VTR1)
STR-SL7
KV-32XBR250

Did not work on:
KF-60XBR800
KV-1380R (ok, so it's from 1986, but it does work with discretes...)
STR-GA8ES

Also, please, if you guys find NEW discrete codes in hex format, send them to me so I can put them in the hex code section!

thanks for the persistence guys!
I've tried the above dirty and clean code as above but they did nothing? and function code 85 didn't do anything apart from make the red light on the set blink! why would Sony remove this useful function? it doesn't make sense?
