Does anyone have any definitive information on the differences between the Pronto and the RC-5000. Some have told me that the differences include the serial cable and software (which is not a big deal as Pronto owners will eventually get these). Some have told me that the color of the case will differ (who cares). While others have told me that the screen will be color rather than monochrome.
Does anyone have any definitive information on this orr any other differences.
TIA

I don't believe anyone knows what's going on with the RC5000. The original press release specified the exact same specs as the Pronto, with a Nov. '98 release date - but we know that didn't happen.
Right now, nothing forthcoming has appeared from Marantz. But from early photos, it's the same monochrome screen as the Pronto - the cost and battery consumption of a color screen is prohibitive, and thus isn't likely to appear in any half-way economical remotes any time soon.

Let me see....the RC-5000 was featured (as was the Pronto) in the CES Innovations Guide. The RC-5000 was not apparent in any way shape or form on the Marantz booth at the show. My guess is that it may be a while yet.

Current word from the Marantz distributor here in Canada is that the RC-5000 won't debut until March.

...but knowing distributors, they're just guessing.

The RC5000, which is identical in every way to the Philips piece with the exception of the color- will not be seen on the streets until july 99 at the earliest. Dont' count on immediate (if ever)Pronto edit software availability either. Stick with the Philips piece.
