Hi there,

I have some questions regarding the build quality of the 7000...I had the original 1000 & 2000 models & really liked the build quality & feel of the remotes.

I bought a 6000 & hated it. It felt like a cheap piece of plastic & had a poor screen which 'bled' badly.

Can someone please give me an honest answer. If the 7000 feels anything like the 6000 then I dont want to even look at potentially purchasing it. I live in Australia so I cant see one in a store so I have to rely on you guys to help me decide if I should purchase

Any answers would be greatly appreciated.

First off, I don't know if you realized that you posted in the Pronto versus Pronto NG forum.

I beta tested the TSU7000. It feels very solid in your hand and is physically a real gem. The only thing I don't like compared to my RC9200 is that the volume buttons are back on the bottom and the plastic overlays on the rightmost buttons don't feel like the RC9200 buttons. Other than that, I'm very pleased with the quality of the hardware.

Yes I know where I posted.....I did not get much of a response over in the other forum so I thought that I may get more replies over here! Plus most of them may be biased as they may own the units.

So far, I don't think Philips has matched the overall "feel" of the original Pronto... ergonomic sculpted case, thick solid plastic construction, hard buttons that are easy to distinguish. That said, the 7000 is a big improvement over the 6000 and does feel nice in its own right.

I sort of like the volume buttons on the bottom. When you hold the remote in your hand, wouldn't you usually hold it from the bottom, and you would normally adjust the volume more often than the channel? I like it so much I have considered programming all my remotes that way, regardless of the label by the buttons (plus, the Marantz doesn't even say channel, does it? I'm not on a computer where I can check now)
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.

A little off subject,I suppose, but what about quality of the display. For these old, old eyes, is it any better (brighter, better contrast) than in the TSU1000? I need to wear reading glasses in order to see the display on the "1000" properly.

The Pronto Pro 7000 is a 3.8" 64K TFT color display. So it's a bright color display, with 64,000 colors. There is no comparance between the ts-1000 and this one.

IMHO, mucho better. You can control the colors to get a look that's really easy on the eyes. If you want to see some examples, download the PCFs from the contest winners. There are quite a few good examples there and on a 1024x768 display, the emulator is almost 1:1 in size of the 7000.

Nice to see a few comments although I still would appreciate a few more to help me decide if I should purchase. Are there any pictures online (other than the official Philips pics) that I can look at?

Even better still could someone send me some pics from a digital camera to [email protected] I would really appreciate it! Remember I dont have the luxury of seeing one in person as I live in Australia

I have a 7000 and am in Australia (but in Melbourne). I have previously had the 1000. I find the 7000 much better than the 1000 to hold and use. The screen is absolutely stunning and extremely easy to read.

The only slight negative is the volume & channel up/down buttons - it can be hard to locate the right one in the dark.
