I've got a pronto pro which has been working very well with all my components. I've just had to replace the TV with a nice cheap 28" Bush, and now buttons that you'd have to repeatedly press such as AV, work once and then won't work again. I have to pick up the TV remote and press the button on that to get it to change again. Anybody got any ideas please?

That problem is called a "toggle bit". It's a pretty common problem, but the solution depends on a bunch of details that I don't know from your post.

Which model Pronto are you using?

In Pronto Edit, it is possible to view the IR signal (a sequence of four digit hex numbers, the first of which is probably 0000). If you can copy one of those for your TV from Pronto Edit and paste it here, that will answer most of the other questions.

There is LIRC data for a Bush 28" tv here
[Link: lirc.sourceforge.net]

If your TV has the same IR signals as that one, it is RC5 protocol (the most common protocol with a toggle bit) device 0.

It is easiest to define RC5 codes using the "Define RC5/6" dialog, which you can reach from the "Advanced" button of the "add IR" dialog.

Select RC5 (rather than RC5x or RC6)
Set the "System" to 0.
Use a hex calculator (such as windows calculator view/scientific) to translate the rightmost 2 digits of each function number from that LIRC data from hex to decimal, then enter it as the "Command" in the "Define RC5/6" dialog. That should work for everything there except menu-off and zoom, which need to be 64 greater than the value of translating the hex to decimal.

Thanks, here's the code from one of the buttons.

0000 006d 0000 000c 0021 0023 0021 0022 0044 0022 0023 0021 0023 0021 0023 0021 0022 0023 0022 0043 0045 0022 0022 0022 0022 0043 0021 0d5a

The pronto is on original european pronto pro.

Hi, thanks for that, I'll have to tackle that in the morning. I don't seem to have a 'define RC5 dialogue' coming up though - I'll have another play later. :-)

Jules

Later - found it now - couldn't see it for looking!!!!!

Thanks, here's the code from one of the buttons.

It matches the VOL- button in that LIRC file.

If you have trouble with the RC5 dialog, it is also possible to directly paste in the RC5 Pronto hex (in place of the hex you showed above).

5000 0000 0000 0001 0000 0011

You can edit that string replacing just the last two digits of that with the last two digits from the LIRC data.

You can also get the IrTools program and DecodeIR dll from the JP1 group, and use those to decode learned signals from the longer Pronto Hex form you posted, to get the device and command numbers.

It looks like the codes are different as that was my number 1 button. I tried the JP1 forum but could I'll be honest and say that I really don't understand the language. I'm not even sure how to add 64 to what I get in the scientific calculator!
Are there any other work arounds (he asks hopefully? :-) )

John, I think I've found a workaround after searching the forum and reading your other posts. I've found a button that doesn't do anything when I'm in the mode to use some of the other buttons and added it to activate after the first button press. The buttons now work just fine!

Many thanks
