Has anyone got any experiencing programming their pronto for use with these switches?

The remote supplied with the switch has one button, you press it to switch the light on and again to switch it off. To dim the lights you hold the button. If you learn this button into the pronto it does not translate so well and seems to be "confused" by the dual purpose button.

Any help, ideas most welcome.

Cheers

If you post the learned codes, someone may be able to spot the problem.

What exactly is the result your getting?

Chances are the remote is NOT sending out different signals. the switch is just responding differently to the different pulse lenghts. Short puls.. TOggle, Long pulse, Ramp.....

dont attempt to learn 2-3 diferent functions... Just learn the sustained command..... the switch should respond the same to a single button onthe pronto as it does to the factory remote.

If you hold the button bown on the varlight controler when you are programing your pronto, it will send out a multi signal. when you have done this the pronto will turn the lights on and off with a quick touch of the button. if you hold the button down it will then dim the lights up or down.

I too am having problems with a varilight dimmer. i didn't get the remote with it because it can learn any remote command, but the problem i'm having is that it will switch on and off the light but when i hold down the button on the pronto, it doesn't dim the light. is theres something i need to do to the ir code to make it send a constant signal?
cheers

well i seem to of sorted it. I've been randomly trying different ir codes from the download area and I've found one for a tv that seems to be working ok.
if anyone else is having the same problem, the code i used is:

0000 006d 0022 0002 0156 00ab 0016 0015 0016 0015 0016 0015 0016 0015 0016 0015 0016 0015 0016 0040 0016 0015 0016 003f 0016 0040 0016 0040 0016 0040 0016 0040 0016 003f 0016 0015 0016 0040 0016 0040 0016 0015 0016 0015 0016 0015 0016 0015 0016 0040 0016 0015 0016 0015 0016 0015 0016 0040 0016 0040 0016 0040 0016 0040 0016 0015 0016 0040 0016 0040 0016 05ef 0156 0055 0016 0e4b

I also have one of these and would love the pronto to have a code for on and one for off as I could then macro in a command on say "pause" to light up the room. The problem at the moment if i do this and lights are allready on the room would become dark! any suggestions ??

The Varilight dimmer only remembers one ir code to operate it. Idon't think you can use a discreet on and discreet off for this. It is kind of like the TV standby button, it will only change the state of the TV, eg on to off, and off to on. These dimmers are quite cheap and they do a good job for the price. I have seen a dimmer called the X-10, this is a far more sophisticated dimmer, which allows different commands for on, off, slight dim, half dim etc. But they are expensive.

Hi there,
Just spotted this thread and as we have just bought a couple of Varilight remote dimmer switches I thought I would throw in my experience. We have a double dimmer and a single dimmer and found them to be excellent value for money. They do seem to be a bit sensitive to certain codes and I had to do quite a bit of trial and error before I found a couple of codes that worked perfectly..we don't even have to point the Pronto at the swicthes to get them to switch on and off and dim up and down.
Some codes didn't work at all.. others seem seemed to work every other tap of the button which was no good.
So here are the two codes I have found to work:

5000 0072 0000 0001 0000 0032

0000 006b 0000 000f 0006 00ec 0006 0036 0006 0036 0006 0036 0006 0076 0006 0036 0006 0076 0006 0036 0006 0036 0006 0036 0006 0076 0006 0036 0006 0036 0006 00eb 0006 0856

If you only have a single dimmer, copy and paste the first code into your button as it is probably the cleanest.

While I realise that the second longer code does seem to contain a bit of repetition, it works which is the main thing!

When teaching the dimmer to learn the code from the Pronto, I can't remember whether I just tapped the Pronto button or held it until the light flashed. If you tap and it doesn't work, try holding it until the light flashes.

Hope it works for you

Here's how to successfully paste a code.
Copy the first code from my previous post ie
5000 0072 0000 0001 0000 0032
Using ProntoEdit, go to the button on your Pronto you plan to use for the dimmer. Double click on the button.
This will open the Button Properties window for that button. Across the top there are four tabs - Action, Properties, Icons and Colors,
Click the Properties tab. If the button already has a code in it you will see in the square window an item with a square bracketed [C]. (Go to ** below if there is nothing in that window) Now double click on that [C] item. It will open up a panel headed Add IR.
*At the bottom there are OK and Cancel buttons, above these are four buttons. If the one on the left says Hide IR>> below this should be the IR code: window... however, if the left button says View IR>> click it to open the IR code: window. If you're with me so far we're almost there.
This is the window into which you paste the IR code you want to use to activate the function (in this case, the dimmer switch). You can label it if you wish by clicking on the Label panel. Now click the OK button and you're done.

Once you have downloaded this into your Pronto, then follow the Varilight instructions on how to teach this code to your light switch. Once your switch has correctly learnt the code you should now be able to sit back and dim your lights.

Any problems, let me know and I'll try to help.
Caz

** If there is no code in the button already you need to create one. On the left of the Button Properies panel there are five buttons Alias, Delay, Set IR, Beep and Timer. Click the Set IR button. This will bring up the Add IR panel (now go to the * paragraph above)

Your instructions marked ** are not needed when using ProntoEdit 4.05.

These dimmers work very well with most codes. But remember, after you have pasted the hex code into your universal remote, you have to get the dimmer to 'learn' your code.

This is an easy process.

1. Press the dimmer 6 times, the lights should then go dim to bight to dim
2. Press the button on the remote that you have just programmed
3. The lights will again go dim to bright and back again
4. Confirm the chosen code, by pressing the button on the controller again
5. The lights will go dim - bright - dim - bright - dim

Now the dimmer has learnt the button, you shouldn't have any problems.
