Well,,,, I thought I figured all this out. I used all your great files that you have all worked on,thank you,and finshed my configuration. Everything seems to work great on the pro-edit. I hooked up my serial cable to update the RC and download the config.It tells me to reset the RC, I did, no screen change on PC. Then it says RC is not connected. When I tried to send config. to RC, it says com 1 was opened but no response form the RC. I think I've checked all the normal obvious things and read the troubleshooter. Help ???

Are you plugging the serial cable directly into the pronto or into the charger? For some reason I had the same problem when trying it through the charger but when I plugged the serial into the bottom of the pronto itself, it worked fine.

I have tried both ways,, same result,,I also tried my other pc just to make sure something in the port wasn't messed up. Both pc's run xp pro. It said in the troubleshooter that the driver could be wrong for the OS. Havn't got to try a different OS yet. One other ? for u guys. This is the first remote I have ever done, other then the cheapies. I am a real NEWBIE here. Dosn't it seem strange that the TSU 6000 comes with a serial hook up and u need a gender adapter. Guess I was hoping for more from philips. ;-)

Whoa.... No, it doesnt............ Standard PC RS-232 port is MALE. Prontos come with a Female DB-9 to Stereo Miniplug Cable. You either have the Wrong cable or you have one of the strangest computers I've ever heard of. If you port is Female for some reason, you not only need a Gender Changer, you probobly need a Null Modem adaptor.

If I had to guess, I'd say your PC doesnt really have a RS-232 port. Many new models (Especially Sony) Dont have good ole DB-9 RS-232 ports anymore. You'll Need to get a USB-Serial adaptor and Remap your COM1 to it.

If you need an adapter, you are doing something wrong.

I am using 4.05, If the info I recieved earlier here is correct, which I'm guessing that it is, I have the wrong patch cord. My cord has a stereo plug on 1 end and a male serial on the other. something tells me this is the problem, I wondered when I seen it in the box, why they would use that. I purchased it new, and it didnt look like box had ever been open.

definitely the wrong cable, but from your first post I thought you might have been using an older version of PE, since Version 3 was called ProntoPro Edit.

if it's a NIB remote, i doubt it came with a wrong cable. have you tried plugging it into your pc?

sometimes female cables can appear "male" because of the guide/shielding that sticks out from the plug.

the gender is derived from whether the plug has PINS or SOCKETS for the pins.

if you look straight into the end of the plug, do you see pins, or holes?

PINS=MALE
HOLES=FEMALE

that's why the nomenclature Male & Female came into use.

i'm thinking it's probably what impaqt is referring to.

Well,,,its Don, not Den,,I know the difference in plug types. I bought a female/female adapter to make it work so if you guys are telling me that the OEM patch cable is a female ,this cable is wrong.

The Pronto cable should be female. A serial port is always male.
