You should read the FAQ before you post anything, the answers to most common problems are there:

FAQ B8-04 How can I enter multiple digits on a single button, say for a favorite channel icon?

It seems that when people encounter this problem they immediately forget that the Pronto is a macro-based remote. Which means more than one command per button. The majority of users attempt to learn the sequence of numbers off of the original remote -- say "53" in one shot. You can't do that as the Pronto is only able to learn one command at a time.
Instead, you need to create a macro to duplicate the exact steps you yourself would take to enter that channel in. While you could re-learn each digit over and over again for each icon, that is both a waste of time and space. Now that we know what aliases are (see previous question) we can instead use that function to create the macro. So, what you basically need to do is alias to each button on your TV/VCR/SAT keypad. For instance, a macro in ProntoEdit to select channel 255 using aliases may look like this:

[B] DSS - Keypad - 2
[B] DSS - Keypad - 5
[D] 0.1 sec
[B] DSS - Keypad - 5
[B] DSS - Keypad - Enter

It's that simple. But what, you may ask, is that 0.1 second delay doing in there? Well, depending on the specific device you're controlling, it may require a short pause between each digit before it can sense them as individual commands. More often (and shown above), a delay may be required between digits that are the same. If the delay were removed from the above sample, the DSS may only sense that you entered channel "25".

So you nned to create an action list for each of your logo buttons that is a set of aliases and delays, as shown above.
The term "Macro" is confusing. when most Pronto people use it they are not talking about the Macro section of the Pronto, they mean a sequence of commands. Most people do not use the Macro section of the Pronto at all. You can have a macro for any button you like.

The information you are looking for should be in your user's guide. I have an online copy of the Pronto users guide. On page 19 in the section "Recording Macros and Setting Timers" are the steps for creating macros. I won't recreate all the text here but the first steps are... 1) tap the macro menu button; 2)open the macro menu and select a macro group; 3) switch to edit mode with the mode button; 4) tap the button you want to use for your macro. It goes on.

If you have a computer at home, using the "Marantz Touchscreen Remote Setup" program on your computer would be much easier (and give you a LOT more flexibility) than trying to program things on the remote itself.

The remote is good at learning IR codes and sending IR codes, but I don't think it is very good at helping you build a usful macro/acitivity based universal remote control. JMO-Carl

spud,

In TSS, you use the action list to set up macros. Not exactly sure what you're doing, but try this: Click the channel icon, under the action tab, ALIAS to your first channel number, enter a delay, alias to 2nd channel number, enter a delay, then alias to the last channel number. The action list should look like this for channel 202:

B (location of keypad #s)- 2
D .2
B (location of keypad #s)- 0
D .2
B (location of keypad #s)- 2

This assumes that you have the keypad numbers on a button somewhere on the remote that you can alias to.

spud,

Here's what I recommend you do. It may seem like a lot of work, but it will save you a lot of time and frustration in long run.

Using TSS, create a new device (on the device side) name it IR codes. Create some pages under this device, and put a small label at the top of the page for each one, i.e. VCR, SAT, DVD etc. Populate each of these pages with plain, ugly buttons (put a delay on each one so they'll show up in use mode). The quickest way is create one page like this and then just copy and paste it to create the others. These buttons will never be displayed on the remote. Gather together all your OEM remotes. Lable each of your newly created buttons with the all the functions you wish to have available (use the OEM remotes as a guide). When every function of every remote is on a button, download this small ccf to the RC5000 and proceed to learn all your codes onto the remote. When done, upload back to the computer. Merge this ccf into your ccf. In your combined ccf, each button SHOULD NOW BE ALIASED to these codes. Building macros is easy, and if there's a problem you can relearn the source code. Additionally, adding or upgrading to new equipment can now be done very quickly.

Are you mistakenly on the device side? On the device side, the edit button isn't present. The device side is on the right, the macro side is on the left. That could be your problem. To get to the macro side on a Pronto 1000 you tap the funny icon to the left of the central pronto home button. I assume this looks the same on a rc5000.
As others have pointed out, you may be better off in the long run to get familiar with prontoedit and use it for programming. But what you are trying to do is reasonable, we just haven't figured out why it isn't working for you.
