Whenever I select an alias from a panel, for some of the buttons there are multiple entries. For example, I have a VCR1 Select button, and when I want to alias it from another screen, there are multiple entries for the button. How do I get rid of these fantom buttons? I have tried Tonto and Pronto Edit, and these fantom buttons exist with both editors.

I can ensure I select the correct one by first Renaming the button on the screen, then aliasing to it. When I have finished aliasing it, I can then rename it. The renamed button only affects the "real" button, not the fantom buttons.

There does not seem to be a way to delete these fantom buttons either.

Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks!

I suspect that the "phantom" buttons, really do exist in your ccf. They may be buried under another button or a frame, and therefore not visable. The "best" way to handle aliases/codes is put all the source codes on simple buttons in a separate device or macro group and then alias EVERYTHING to these "master codes". That way you only have to learn one time for each code, it's easy to figure out what to alias to, you don't have to worry about deleting a link, its easy to upgrade a piece of new gear (just replace/relearn the codes), etc, etc, etc.

Actually, I have already done that. I have each physical device in my system with learned codes, and the buttons alias to them. On the screens that I am having fantom button problems, they were already aliased to real buttons. For example, I have a VCR1 select button that is a list of alias buttons to the receiver, tv, vcr, etc. I am actually aliasing that complicated macro. The problem is there are when I go to alias this button, there are 2-3 entries on the list that all look the same, even though none of the buttons on the screen have the same name. As I mentioned in my original post, I can determine the "real" button by renaming the button on the screen (Then on the alias list when I pick it, I can ensure I select the right one as the Fantom buttons will not be renamed), then aliasing to it, then renaming it back. How do I get rid of buttons that don't appear on the screen? There should be a way to delete buttons that you can not see.

Hard to say without looking at the ccf. If you want to e-mail me (address in my profile) a copy I'll have a look later today. Be sure to give me a detailed example of exactly where your seeing this so I can duplicate it.

In PE you can tab from button to button within a frame to find the 'hidden' buttons. You also can bring to front and send to back. PE 4.05 is better for this - for example, select a frame and the status bar shows how many nuttons/frames are children of the frame.
