Just curious, the Pronto is listed as having 512k RAM. That's good to know, but it really gives little perspective. How much memory does the RC-2000 have(I and/or II, please specify)? They said the RC-2000 Mark I had _plenty_ of memory, but my Mark I fills up every time I buy a new toy (until I decide that I really don't need some obscure function on another peice of equipment), and Marantz must have thought it was too little, as the Mark II has more, though I've never seen numbers on either, even in the manuals.

Thanx!

Actually, the Mark 2 remote has the same amount of memory as the Mark 1. Marantz just took away some of the things that fill up that memory quickly. One of these being 5 character names in the LCD screen. If you look, the Mark 2 has only 4 characters available for naming the multi-purpose buttons and the Mark 1 has 5. This is how they were able to cram more commands in there. As for the Pronto, I thought it had 1 MB of memory, but I'm not sure if thats to store commands or the code for the GUI.

Err... no, it doesn't. It also depends on *which* of the Mk.1 remotes you're taking about. The later version of the Mk.I had double the amount of the first batch.

As far as the amount of memory, You're both right. It has 1 Mb of flash ROM, 512k of RAM. In comparison with the RC-2000, we're taking different orders of magnitude here; the RC-2000 is based on a four bit micro, the Pronto on an embedded version of the Motorola 68000 family. They're not from the same planet.

WOOO! Motorola 68000 series??? I programmed a Motorola 68HC11 a few years ago for a robotic mouse to find its way through a maze, mapping it... then it would start from the same place the second time and take the shortest path.

Yep, the Motorola MC 68328 'DragonBall'. The 'HC11 is a nice little controller, but I wouldn't want to do a GUI with one...

Anyhow, to answer Greg's original question - don't worry, you won't fill it up (really - this time it's an engr saying it). If you do manage it, there will be so many devices and pages that mere mortals won't be able to figure it out.

I'm a pretty rabid case (I have 14 remotes consolidated on mine) and I still have 38% of the memory free. Plus my partner can actually use the system now - unlike the stack of remotes I was using before.
